Rings

Klaine slash; 6x08 (A Wedding) reaction fic. Pure, post-wedding fluff. Complete but unedited. (Based on a super-cute Tumblr post that I sadly cannot link to on here)

Kurt first notices it in the cab on the way to the hotel (which Brittany and Sue has chosen for them, but Santana assured them that it wasn't that bad). They are holding hands, basking in the pure glee of the moment, of being husbands, and Kurt feels absolutely giddy.

Blaine looks beautiful. He has a faint blush covering his cheeks, making them rosy, and his warm eyes are constantly crinkled in a smile. A kind of dazed awe has permanently settled across his face – something they both have in common.

"Husbands," Kurt says in wonder.

"Husbands," Blaine agrees disbelievingly.

Before Kurt can stop himself (and he realizes he doesn't need to anymore, they're back together and they're married), he leans forward and pecks his husband's lips. His husband. His husband. Blaine.

"Husbands," He says again, giggling.

Blaine stares at him for a moment, and then pecks Kurt too.

"Husbands," He repeats with a grin.

Kurt then grabs his collar and pulls him in for a proper kiss – it's a bit off-center and messy and hard, a too eager press of mouths, and god, it's perfect.

"Husbands," He whispers giddily.

Blaine's eyes are pools of swirling gold and honey, wide with awe, and Kurt's breath hitches quietly.

The dark haired man reconnects their lips, but this time, it's slow and sweet, and his hand reaches up to gently cup his husband's cheek. Kurt melts in to it, to the sensation of Blaine, and when they pull away, eyes slowly fluttering open, Blaine softly says:

"Husbands."

Kurt nods breathlessly.

They settle comfortably, sides pressed against each other and knotted fingers resting in Kurt's lap. Blaine's eyes keep pulling back to them, fixated on their hands – Kurt doesn't make much out of it and it's soon out of his mind as he rests his head on his husband's shoulder.

"Husbands," He says quietly.

Blaine drops a kiss to his forehead affectionately.

"Husbands," He agrees.

The next time is at the hotel.

They enter the room, look at each other awkwardly for a few seconds, and then proceed to literally jump up on each other.

"I-mm-I love you," Blaine mumbles in between kisses as Kurt eagerly pulls his suit off.

"We're going to-ah-spend the rest of our-mm-lives together," He agrees.

Blaine kisses him with fuelled eagerness at that, wrapping his legs around Kurt's waist and grabbing his face. His husband makes a surprised noise and staggers backward by the force of it, and the edge of the bed hits him just behind his kneecaps. He yelps as he helplessly falls back, Blaine on top of him.

"Oh my god, Kurt," Blaine exclaims, pushing himself up after the impact, "Are you okay?!"

Kurt groans and shifts a bit.

"I'm fine," He says quickly.

"Are you su-"

"Yes, Blaine. Just kiss me already," Kurt almost growls, eagerly fumbling with the dark haired man's shirt.

Blaine grins and shifts position until he's straddling his husband comfortably, and cups his face. Kurt nibbles on his bottom lip playfully, and Blaine can't stop himself from moaning.

The night flies past and next morning, Kurt's heart leaps when they wake up together, naked and sprawled under messy sheets, Blaine's head resting on his husband's chest. His unfairly long, dark eyelashes flutter against his cheeks and his lips are slightly parted, and Kurt can't bring himself to wake him up, so he stays in bed, not able to go back to sleep but content with cuddling and watching Blaine.

When he does wake up, he does it with a warm, sleepy smile and a soft peck to Kurt's lips. After a few minutes of lazy, aimless kissing, they decide to get up to brush their teeth and wash themselves. And when Kurt comes back from the bathroom, he finds Blaine sitting on the bed, naked with the exception of boxers, staring at his hand. He repeatedly flexes his fingers, eyeing the silver ring with concentration. When he notices Kurt watching, he blushes red and quickly stops, not explaining but simply giving his husband a kiss on the cheek before disappearing in to the bathroom.

Much later on, when they're at home again – which, currently, is Blaine's place now Karofsky has moved out – and rebooking their honeymoon (because there is no way they will let Sue reduce it to no more than a weekend in a place that isn't even that far away), Kurt notices it for the third time.

Blaine is rustling around in the kitchen making coffee while his husband sits by the sink with a laptop in his lap, frowning at the screen.

"It feels like everything has gotten more expensive than when we booked it at first," He scoffs.

"That's impossible, Kurt," Blaine chides.

"Maybe Sue hacked her way in to the website and changed it to make sure we wouldn't blow her honeymoon off," Kurt suggests.

Blaine gives him an amused look.

"But we aren't blowing her honeymoon off," He remarks. "We're just… Treating ourselves with two honeymoons, since hers is so short."

Kurt hums non-committedly, scrolling down the page. Blaine puts down a coffee cup next to him, sipping his own.

"Thanks," His husband says, taking a sip. "Nonfat?"

"Always."

Kurt can't help his smile, and he leans over the sink and kisses the other man quickly.

"Mm, you taste like a nonfat mocha," Blaine mocks, licking his lips.

His husband raises an eyebrow playfully.

"You know my coffee order?"

"I'm pretty sure you would've broken up with me a very long time ago if I didn't," He points out.

"Well, it's not that easy anymore," Kurt muses. "Now I have to file for a divorce to get rid of you."

Blaine grins.

Kurt goes back to reading on the laptop, face lighting up suddenly.

"Hey, this is nice," He exclaims. "Even better than the one we booked at first. Not too expensive, either. Oh, and both indoor and outdoor pools – then we can compromise so I'm not forced to use a ridiculous amount of sunscreen every time we want to go swimming. What do you think?" Silence. "Blaine?"

He looks over at his husband, who is standing with his elbows positioned on the sink, staring down at his joined hands curled around his coffee. Kurt narrows his eyes.

"Blaine, are you even listening?"

The dark haired man's head whips up, eyes wide.

"Sorry, what?"

"I was talking to you," Kurt says amusedly.

"Oh, I'm so sorry," Blaine exclaims. "What were you saying?"

Kurt raises his eyebrows, dropping his gaze to the cup in his husband's hand.

"Interesting coffee?"

"What?" Blaine repeats, looking between his drink and Kurt with a frown. "Oh – no, I wasn't-no."

The chestnut haired man looks at him, waiting. Blaine sighs in defeat.

"No-I just… The ring," He tries to explain. "I was looking at the ring."

"What about it?" Kurt asks. He looks down at his own – he barely notices wearing it anymore, haven gotten used to it first when they got engaged and now again when they're married.

"It feels weird," Blaine admits shyly. "I've never worn a ring before."

Kurt eyes him as he continues, looking a bit abashed.

"You've had a ring before – when I proposed," He continues. "So, you're more used to it. I've never had one until now, and it's just… Weird."

"A good or bad weird?" Kurt asks curiously.

Blaine stares at him, blinking.

"A great weird," The words tumble out of him hurriedly. "A wonderful weird. It's a reminder of this," He waves a hand between them, "And that it's real, and not just a dream or anything."

He's blushing now, and Kurt has to bite his lip not to smile.

"But still weird?" He asks.

Blaine looks down at his ring and nods helplessly.

Kurt puts down the laptop and walks around the sink until he's on the same side as Blaine, and gently pries one of his hands from the cup.

"I think this is all really weird," He confesses. "To wake up next to you again, and live with you, and plan a honeymoon – don't get me wrong, it feels like this is exactly how it's supposed to be, but it's still unbelievable. But I love every second of it, because I'm with you."

Blaine ducks his head and smiles.

"And I think it's adorable seeing you with a ring," Kurt adds. "You'll get used to it. I remember staring at mine all the time when you first gave it to me. I didn't dare to ever take it off."

His husband laughs a little, and Kurt smiles. He gives him a short, sweet kiss.

"I'm never taking it off," Blaine promises. "I like the way it feels…"

"Grounding?" Kurt offers.

"Yeah," He agrees breathlessly.

Kurt suddenly comes to think of something, pursing his lips.

"I gave you my old ring back when we broke up," He recalls. "Do you still have it?"

Blaine blinks.

"Yeah, of course – it's in the bottom of my drawer," He admits, eyebrows furrowed. "Why?"

Kurt shifts on his feet.

"Well, if it's okay, I want it back now we're officially together again," And married. "I want to wear it with this one."

Blaine's face breaks in to a wide smile, and he loops his arms around the other man's waist.

"Really?"

"Of course, silly," Kurt says lightly. "I'm keeping every ring you've ever given me, and wearing them, too. I still have that bowtie one you made out of bubblegum wrappers."

His husband leans back in surprise.

"You still have that?"

"Of course. But I think I'll just wear the two other ones. That one can sit on the nightstand."

"Deal," Blaine says, and Kurt remembers when he first admitted to having a crush on the then Warbler, at the Lima Bean all those years ago. His expression is exactly the same – except this time, Kurt gets to kiss it away.

"Good," He purses his lips thoughtfully. "Isn't it a bit unfair, though? That I get an engagement and a wedding ring, but you've only got one?"

Blaine shakes his head.

"That's okay. I've got you."

"Cheesy," Kurt says, wrinkling his nose, but he has to fight his smile.

"Just a little."

"I can't believe I'll have to put up with your cheesiness for the rest of my life. That's something I will have to get used to."

Blaine grins and kisses him.
