This is a random story idea I had. I haven't updated my other stories, but I'll try to. I just found that I never had a clear plan or my other stories and ended up having severe writer's block. I have a better idea of this story and hopefully it will be long term.

2043

Frozen. She simply stood, not being able to process what was happening. No words, not matter how hard she tried to form them, they simply would not escape her mouth. She takes a deep inhale in, then exhales, causing the moisture in her breath to create a little cloud in the cold air. Was she being deceived? Was it a dream? No, it wasn't.

"So...?"

A wide smile grew over her face. "Yes."

His eyes widened, face full of glee. He can't tell if he's simply shivering from the bitter cold, or shaking with excitement. Due to his uncontrollable body motions, he misses her ring finger and drops the round brilliant cut diamond ring into the snow. He panicked and dug through the snow pile for it. Within the two seconds of searching, his hand had lost all feeling, fingers like cold as icicles. This time he does not miss, and slides the circular cut onto her finger. Before leaning up to kiss her, the two exchange a loving stare and laugh at his embarrassing moment. He runs his hand through her blonde curls, and plants a kiss. It was official. She was engaged. For a while, the two found it hard to talk, constantly giggling with joy. Finally, he managed to initiate a conversation, as they started walking their way to their apartment.

"I guess in a couple months, you'll be Ellie Mosby."

"Ellie Mosby? That has such a terrible ring to it. Even Luke Stinson sounds better." she laughed.

"I know that was a joke, but I'm really considering that now." he smiled.

"Why?" she questioned, with a slight laugh.

"I don't know, the Stinsons just have an awesome sound to it. Ellie and Luke Stinson, living with their kids Hurricane Stinson and Loki, fighting crime and-

"Wait, that's what you think of? Us having kids?" She asked.

He paused. "Yeah, of course. With you."

With you. Those words sunk in. This man was prepared to start a family with her, he loved her. It had been so surreal to her that someone so great would fall for her. She was just an artsy dork who was obsessed with Star Wars, and he was... well a dork obsessed with Star Wars. Something about that comment just made her tear up.

"You okay?" he looked at her, worried.

She sniffed. "Never been better."

"Me neither." he grinned. "You know, it's so relieving now that you've said yes."

"What does that mean? Relieving?"

"You girls are so lucky that you never have to ask. It is the scariest thing in the world-

"Scarier than when you thought you lost your special edition of Return of the Jedi, and started crying?"

"Okay, first of all, don't joke about that." he said solemnly. "Second, it is scary, because then you put your relationship in a do or die situation. A great relationship that could be ruined by asking one question."

"Well, just because someone says no, doesn't mean it can't work out." Ellie reasoned.

"Does it though?" he asked.

"Your step mom and your dad, hello?!" she nudged him.

"Yeah, I guess so, but that doesn't work 83% of the time."

"Speaking of Robin and your dad, we should tell them all we're engaged."

"Ellie, can we wait? I beg you." he pleaded

"Can I at least tell my dad? You know I tell my dad everything." she begged.

He hesitated. "I suppose, but wouldn't it be better to say it in person? He's not that far away, if you take a train, you could get to his place in forty minutes tops."

"I guess I'll go tomorrow. Tonight, I want to be with my new fiance." she smiled.

"Hopefully, this road of our life just goes smoothly." he said wishfully, holding her hand.

Little ways down the road, that road would already begin to have its bumps.
