Thunder boomed and a flash of lightening lit the dark cabin. The hair on the back of my neck stood up. You'd think being a son of Jupiter and all, I wouldn't be afraid of a little storm, but I was. I guess us kids of the sky god had some bizarre traits. First, Thalia's afraid of heights and now I'm scared of something I can conjure myself. Ironic, huh?

Another flash of lightening shone through the window, making me jump. I counted. One...two...three...four...five... BOOM! The lightening had struck, apparently, five miles away. It was a little trick I'd heard a while ago, but I guess it'd stuck with me. It calmed me down. See, making lightening strike and being struck by it were two completely different things. Two things that could easily risk or end your life.

I sighed and shifted positions on my bunk. This has been such a dreary day. Surprisingly it was raining in Camp Half-Blood. Not just raining though, it was a freaking storm. It was probably all us year-rounders' fault. But hey, could you blame us for feeling badly and enchanting the weather to fit our mood? We'd lost most of our friends for the next nine months. At least I had Piper, oh and Leo. Percy and Annabeth were with their families, and Hazel and Frank went and visited Camp Jupiter. I could've gone with them, seen Reyna and my old friends, but I couldn't leave Piper.

Piper. I could really use her right now. Another thunder clap sounded, and I shuddered. She wouldn't make fun of me for being scared, she'd comfort me, unlike Leo. He'd probably make some joke about me mixing up my godly parents, and say I was probably a child of Demeter.

Suddenly, there was a light knock on the door. Curious at who it might be, I walked over and opened it.

Piper stood in the doorway with her camp clothes on, her hair in choppy braids, holding an umbrella Wind whipped at her hair and the umbrella folded upwards. She looked as beautiful as ever.

She smiled shyly. "Mind if I come in?"

"'Course." I grinned.

She set down the umbrella and rubbed her arms.

"Cold?" I asked and she nodded. "Here." I said as I got her a fuzzy red blanket from my bed.

She wrapped it around herself like a cloak and smiled warmly. "Thanks Jason."

I rubbed the back of my neck. "No problem, Pipes. Thanks for coming."

She shrugged. "I figured you'd need me. I know you're afraid of storms."

I blinked and my mouth formed a most likely unattractive 'o'. "How did you find out?"

She walked over to my bunk and sat down making the mattress springs squeak. "I noticed on the Argo II. That one night when we flew through a storm, you didn't want to go above deck."

I sat next to her and bit my lip nervously. "You won't tell anyone, right?"

Piper scoffed and bumped me with her shoulder. "Of course not, Jason. If Leo ever found out it would mean weeks worth of corny storm jokes, and I don't think I could handle it."

I chuckled. "Ditto."

All of a sudden a large gust of wind blew the door open and lightening streaked the sky once again. The door swung closed and I shivered.

"Oh get over here, you scaredy-cat." Piper grinned, wrapped the blanket around my shoulders and linked arms with mine.

We were close enough now that I could breath in her sweet cotton-candy scent. I looked into her eyes, still not able to tell if they were green or brown or blue. "Piper, it really does mean a lot to me that you came."

Her cheeks turned pink. "Storms kind of scare me too, so I thought we could be scared together."

I brushed a stray piece of hair behind her ear. "Are you scared anymore?"

Her eyes sparkled from the reflections of the lightening outside. "No." She said, "Are you?"

"Gods yes."

She laughed and raised a brow jokingly. "Should I distract you?"

"Please." I breathed and leaned in to press my lips to hers.

The kiss was long and sweet and felt like it ended way too soon.

"Piper?"

"Yes?"

"Do me a favor? Whenever there's a storm...be here." I said.

She kissed me softly. "Always."
