Quiet thoughts

Unspoken dreams

Here I am

Alone again

She's All I Ever Had by Ricky Martin

Once more I stand alone as I watch his grave from afar. His mother and sister grieve and I keep away from them knowing they would never accept the love we had. It's just me and an old leather duster that he gave me the night before he died. I never thought that I would feel again but he made me.

Now I feel nothing but sorrow and pain. A love denied. I shed no tears, I cannot. I feel dry like a desert. Yes, a desert of sadness. I turn away and look at the setting sun, the wind blowing my auburn locks across my face. A bitter smile passes over my face as the sun caress' my face and I close my eyes, pretending that it's his fingers brushing my hair away one last time.

I spread my arms and spin, letting the wind sweep the trench coat around my feet. I stop and look up as the sun finally goes down, leaving the sky the color of blood. It has been a year and I have waited ever since.

I see his family leave and I walk over to his grave. Sitting on the ground beside his headstone I see a crow circle above. The bird who takes souls to their resting place and brings back angry souls. Suddenly scratching comes from the grave and I watch in fascination as my love rises again.

He looks around, confused then drops to his knees in pain when he sees me. I notice the crow settle on the gravestone and caw at me, telling me to leave. I slid the trench coat off and set it beside the bird. I briefly touch the bird's coal black feathers then turn.

As I leave I see him stand and look at the bird then the coat. He picks it up and puts it on over the dirty suit. When I am sure that he has gotten the jacket I promised to return I look up at my own crow.

It is time. She says. I nod and smile having had revenge and put my soul to rest. When the rays of the moon hit me I feel at peace and I disappear, to wait for my love on the other side.
