He can remember it. Always. The way he used to feel about her. The way he tried to count every hair on her head, during a particularly long math class. The way she mocked his secret admire letter. Pinning it to the outside of her locker for the entire world to see, the way he misspelled soul mate. . He even cherished the time when she gave him her animal crackers, even though she didn't know his name. How foolish was he?

But that longing for her. The steady burn of something missing, had been a part of him for so long that he couldn't get rid of it. Even now his ring, on her finger. His child in her belly, he longed for her as he drove home from his studio, or she went out with friends. But it was a different longing now. A phantom pain. As if his leg had gone off with out him and he was left still feeling it there in his memory. It was like the time she left him for GEORGE all over again. It wasn't just love that fueled this marriage although it was there in abundance, but it was the knowledge of life without her was so horrible that even the ghost of it haunted his work week.
