"Hey, Lily!" James called. "We're going out for a walk. Wanna come with us?"
Lily frowned and said, "You should be studying!"
James rolled his eyes, saying, "Yeah, right, on a lovely day like this? You've got to be kidding!"
"I am not!" Lily snapped.
"Well, just for a walk around the pond?"
Lily sighed and said, "No thanks."

I wish I went with him, Lily thought. He's cute, and I'd love to sit next to him, just listening to him breathe. But he probably doesn't like me. He thinks I'm too serious.
Outside the school building, James was taking a stroll with Remus, Sirius and Peter, his best friends. As he walked along the path, he kicked at a pebble, sighing.
"What's the matter, James? Thinking of your girlfriend?" Sirius teased.
"Yeah, Lily, I bet!" Peter exclaimed, dancing around James.
Remus made smooching sounds.
"Aw, just shut up!" James cried, his neck and cheeks turning red. "I don't like her! She's too serious for me!"
But as he was saying that, his heart was disagreeing wholeheartedly. I would love to run my fingers through her hair. Gosh, she's so pretty. But she probably doesn't like me. I never take things seriously.

Two days later, in Divination, Professor Mystica before the end of class, she said in her soft melodious voice, "For the weekend, I want you to work in pairs. Sit down somewhere quiet and listen to the auras. Look into the future.
"Now, Sirius will go with Kahlan, Remus with Penelope, James with Lily………………"
After lessons that afternoon, James approached Lily. "Do you want to go out to the side of the lake to do that Divination thing?"
Lily nodded, her heart a-flutter at the thought of sitting somewhere quiet with him.
"Come on," he said, holding her hand.
As they sat by the lake, Lily plucked up her courage and whispered, "Can I lean on you?"
The question took James completely by surprise. "Sure, I guess," he replied.
In their hearts, both of them were thinking, he/she loves me!
