"Hey Sara!" Greg beamed as Sara walked by.
"Hi Greggo," she said. "What's new?"
"Nothing much." He replied.
There was a brief moment of silence before Greg said:
"Heard there was a great new movie playing at the cinema. Wanna come with? I'm sure you'll like it."
"Sure," said Sara. "What time does it start?"
Greg bit his lip. "In ten minutes."
Sara laughed. "Wow, and when were you going to tell me this?"
Greg smiled. "In ten minutes."
"Do you really fear rejection THAT much?" she said with her genuine Sara look.
"Nope," he said. "Just from you."
"Well…" she said. "At least we won't be late."
Greg nodded.
They headed to his car and Sara said, "Greg…"
"Yeah?" he asked.
"I wouldn't have turned you down."
Greg looked into her eyes. "Well, Ms. Sidle, you are very unpredictable at times. I wasn't sure what to think."
She looked at him for the first time with serious yet soft eyes and said, "I'm glad to be your friend. I would never give up our friendship for anything in the world."
Greg smiled. "Not even for a bucket of popcorn at the movies?"
Sara giggled. "Nope."
"Well…" he said, "let's get gummy worms, just to be sure."
They smiled together and headed off.
"Could you believe that?" Greg said, annoyed. "18 bucks for THAT?"
"I know!" Sara exclaimed. "That was the dumbest movie I have ever seen."
"It's weird," Greg said. "I usually enjoy dumb movies."
Sara laughed. "That's believable."
"Hey!" Greg retaliated as he threw an extra gummy worm from the theater at her.
"You are the only guy who makes me laugh this hard. Thanks for being my comedic relief," Sara said chucking the gummy worm back at him giggling.
"Glad to be of service, madam," he replied.
"Well, here we are," Sara said at her door.
Greg said, "Nice place you got here!"
"Thanks."
"So…where's the PS2?"
"The WHAT?"
Greg laughed. "I once thought you were the smartest woman in the world."
Sara glared at him.
"Do you have a computer?"
"What do you think I am!" she said. "A freakin' CAVEMAN?"
Greg laughed so hard he almost choked. "Oh…my…gosh…""A.n.y.w.a.y…" Sara said slowly. "How's things with you?"
"Fine, fine," Greg said. "You like the hairdo?"
"Love it!" Sara giggled.
"I had a great time," Sara said as she led Greg to the door. "Thanks a lot, even if the movie did suck."
Greg laughed. "No problem. Anytime you need a friend, just give me a call."
"Thanks buddy," she said. "See you later."
They moved in for an awkward but sweet hug.
After literally five minutes, they released each other.
Greg smiled and got to his car. "Bye!" he shouted. "See you tomorrow!"
"See ya!" Sara yelled after him.
Greg smiled in spite of himself. What a great day, raced through his mind as he drove off and echoed in his head the whole ride home.
