ULTIMATE END

It is in the lore of every human world in the Milky Way. The herald arrives, bringing disaster in her wake.

Days, weeks, months later – the Eater of Worlds arrives. And the world perishes.

The Eater avoids worlds with the Empowered, however. Legend has it that this is because only they have the ability to defend successfully against the Eater.

On those worlds, the Herald departs empty-handed – and the world goes on.

As is usually the case, lore has some basis in reality. In this case, it was almost picture-perfect.

The Herald entered the new galaxy and found a suitable world. A scan of it revealed one large city floating on a near-endless sea.

The scan also revealed several of the Empowered within that city.

The Herald, unnoticed, glided from the atmosphere of that world. The Lanteans never realised the major bullet they had dodged that morning.

As the Herald pushed deeper and deeper into Pegasus, she monitored every transmission she encountered. She swiftly learned the lore of the new-to-her galaxy.

And in that lore, she found what she was seeking.

Pegasus had its own "Eater of Worlds" – a race of beings who consumed human essence to survive.

The Herald unerringly led her master to one of that race's outermost worlds.

The Milky Way's literal Eater of Worlds would now prey upon the Pegasus Galaxy's figurative ones.

Galactus would now prey upon the Wraith.

The part of the Herald that would always be human Frankie Raye drew golden lips upward into a genuinely amused smile.

This? This was going to be fun.
