Ok, so this just popped into my head when I was re-watching S02E01, when Gill gets pissed off at Kevin for being rude about Julie. I'm still trying to write the next chapter of "Only Know You Love Her When You Let Her Go" so that should be up soon. Hope you like this one :)
'I could have fucking throttled him, the little bastard."
Gill was pacing up in her living room, back and forth, in long, heavy strides.
'I mean, I know he hates your guts, but how bloody dare he say that about you. And in front of me, as well.'
'Gill, don't worry about it,' said Julie softly closing the door behind her with her bum and carrying two glasses of red. Gill was too caught up in her ranting to listen to what Julie was saying.
'I hate it when he's rude about you. It makes me sick to my stomach. He's no better than some of the people we charge for murder. I have to–'
'Hey,' said Julie, louder and more forcefully than before. This time, she got through to Gill, who simultaneously stopped talking and pacing to turn and look at Julie.
'Now, you listen here,' Julie carried on as she made her way over to Gill, putting the glasses down on the table as she passed it. 'Kevin Lumb might be a complete idiot, he might hate my guts, he might piss you off, but he is definitely not like those people we bang up. You're taking this way too personally, love.'
Defeated, Gill sighed as she leant her head on Julie's chest, curling her arms around her waist and breathing deeply to calm herself. Julie put one hand on Gill's back and stroked her friend's hair with the other as she spoke gently into her ear.
'I love that you're so protective of me and stick up for me when I'm not there, but you need to stop getting so affected by it. I can cope with Kevin being mean to me. I'm a big girl. Tough as old boots, me. He's just some little twat I kicked out of my syndicate a while back.'
She chuckled and Gill lifted up her head, with a look of mock annoyance on her face.
'Yeah, and you gave that twat to me. I can think of better presents!'
'I can think of worse...' They both giggled. 'And anyway, how was I to know they were gonna palm him off on you, you mad cow?' Julie smiled and took a deep breath before reaching behind her for Gill's hands and pulling them away from her. Not letting go, she slowly guided Gill to the sofa, saying, 'Come and sit.'
They did, and Gill snuggled into Julie's side, still holding one of her hands while stroking it with the other.
'Better?' asked Julie.
'Better.'
