Yuuko wasn't sure of how it had happened, of how he had managed to convince her, but her brother had indeed gotten her to help him out with his drama club activities. She had just been lying on the couch, reading her boys-love manga, when he had come to her. He had been far too persistent about it, something that is unusual of him; and before she knew it, she was helping him. So, that is how she came to be dressed up as a samurai.
And, of course, her brother was playing a woman's role, wearing a kimono that made him all the more cuter. She questioned why they always gave him a girl's role, and couldn't help but to know that it is because he is so cute... Just like her, right?
To be honest, she couldn't fool herself like that. So, with a sigh, Yuuko listened to Hideyoshi as he explained the characters and the setting. She didn't catch the names, but caught enough to know that he was playing a woman who had fallen in love with her older samurai brother. She couldn't help but be quite irritated at the club for giving her brother such a role.
Hideyoshi said that he was having trouble with the confession scene, where the woman was confessing her incestuous feelings for her big brother. This was the first time Hideyoshi has ever needed help with acting (since middle school), so she was wondering what exactly he was having trouble with. But she didn't really care; the sooner she gets this over with the sooner she can go back and read on to see if Katsura was going to confess to Gintoki.
Another thing she didn't care much about was how Hideyoshi was explaining that it was easier for him if they didn't use the scripts as they acted - her only job was to simply be there and be the older brother.
"Sis, are you ready?" Hideyoshi asked her, looking over his shoulder as he took his spot, his back turned towards her. Yuuko couldn't help but to notice that he looked more beautiful than any other girl she has seen in a kimono.
She sighed once more, her arms crossed. "Let's get this over with already." She told him, tapping her foot a little impatiently.
Yuuko watched as Hideyoshi took a deep breath before turning to face her, a blush dotting his cheeks as he gazed into her eyes. "Brother," He took a couple of steps towards her, his hands up and clasped together, "I've been having these... feelings for you, feelings that I know I shouldn't be having..." He averted his eyes, apparently playing the shy maiden as his blush deepened.
She watched with mainly indifference, just playing the stoic older brother as he listened to his little sister's confession. Of course, her stoic attitude was getting a little shaky with how cute her brother was looking.
"But, brother... I love you. I love you more than just a sister!" Hideyoshi softly exclaimed, his arms at his sides and formed into fists that pointed outwards. The cute look on his face, along with how he was slightly leaning forwards, made Yuuko blush.
She stayed silent as Hideyoshi still stood there, still looking into her eyes. Believing that he wanted her to say something in response as the older brother, Yuuko spoke. "I don't know what to say, sis-"
Before she could continue, Hideyoshi suddenly turned around, getting on her nerves a little when he cried out, "Again!" and got back into position. "I didn't do it well enough." He muttered as Yuuko gave off a silent sigh.
Hideyoshi took deep breaths, regaining himself before turning back around to face her, his blush redder than it had been before. "Brother," He took two quick steps towards her, his hands clasped together and up to his collarbone, "I've something to tell you, something that I've kept hidden for a long time now..." To her, he looked less confident now; but, even so, he looked like he was trying his hardest.
"Brother," Hideyoshi continued, looking straight into her eyes as he leaned forward, "I don't know if you'll accept my feelings, but I have to say this. I lov... love..." His eyes glanced down as the blush started to reach his ears.
"Do you want to use the script?" Yuuko asked, crossing her arms as she stared him down.
He shook his head, getting back into position. "Once more!"
Yuuko sighed again, watching with narrowed eyes at Hideyoshi's back. It took longer for him to recover this time, but he eventually turned around and confronted her, stepping towards her before he spoke. "I've had these feelings for you, for a long time! I know I shouldn't have this feelings since we're siblings, but I can't deny or hide them any longer!" The blush reached the tip of his ears as he took a deep breath, closing his eyes right before crying out. "Aneue, I love you...!"
Yuuko was silent for a few moments, staring at him with a red face. Finally, she sighed, her hand going over to pick up the script which she handed over to her brother, placing it into his hands. "You should really use the script - you're messing up your lines, Hideyoshi."
Just after she had given it to him, he suddenly threw it down and turned around, storming off upstairs and to his bedroom. Yuuko looked after him with both a heavily confused and quite irritated look.
The Next Day
Yuuko still wondered why Hideyoshi had stormed off to his bedroom so unexpectedly. She thought it was just because he had been having so much trouble with his part, but she couldn't convince herself of that because him getting angry like that just wasn't normal. However, she felt more irritation than concern at the moment. Her brother had a lot of guts to waste her time and storm off away from her.
She was brought out of her thoughts when she saw Kanada Aoi, the drama club president, walking by. Yuuko decided to confront her about the role she had assigned to her brother when Aoi knew full well that Hideyoshi does have a sibling. "You're the drama club president, right?" She asked, her eyes slightly narrowed at the girl.
"Yes, I am. Is there something I can help you with, Kinoshita-sama?" Aoi asked, wondering why Hideyoshi's sister was speaking to her all of a sudden.
"Why did you give my brother a woman's role again?" Yuuko asked, her arms crossed.
"Huh?"
She carried on. "Even one who is in love with her older brother? What were you thinking?"
Aoi held out a hand, a very confused expression on her face. "E-excuse me, I believe you're mistaken about something..." She told the brunette, attempting to peacefully settle the matter without any conflict. "I haven't issued out any roles to anyone; we're still debating on what to do next after our last play, Kinoshita-sama."
Yuuko blinked, confusion sweeping over here. "Wh-what? You mean you didn't give my little brother a role of a woman who is in love with her brother?"
She shook her head. "No... Is something wrong?"
Without saying a word, Yuuko turned around, walking back to class as she thought over the entire situation. Hideyoshi had played the role of a girl who is in love with her older brother, but the drama club wasn't even doing anything yet, so what had that been about?
"Aneue, I love you...!"
Yuuko instantly stopped, her eyes widening as her hand went to cover her open mouth. The reason he had done all of that; the reason he was having trouble; the reason he stormed off to his room... it was all because he...
He loves her... more than a brother...
After School
Hideyoshi had drama club activities today, so Yuuko was left alone at home. To confirm it all, she had retrieved one of the scripts, and had found that there was not one mention of anything incestuous. It was about samurai, but not a single one of them had a younger sister who was in love with him. They didn't even have any confession scenes in the script anywhere!
She didn't know what to think as she collapsed down onto the couch. What she ended up thinking about was Hideyoshi's love for her, and she started wondering how she felt about him. After all, he had tried his best to confess...
...
Does she... really love him more than a sister should...?
Hideyoshi hurried on home, not wanting to come across any delinquents or lowlifes considering that it had gotten into the evening with how long club activities lasted. He soon got to his house, hesitating in front of the door. He wondered how he would react to his sister, having had failed to confess to her last night under the false pretense that it was for club. After his attempt, he wondered if he could ever try and confess to her again.
Why did she have to be, at that moment, so thick-headed?
Hideyoshi softly sighed, opening up the door. He was about to call out that he was home, but was distracted as a kimono was thrown on top of him. He yelped out in surprise as he dropped down onto his back, losing his grip on his bag. When he got the cloth off of his head, he saw Yuuko standing in the doorway, fully dressed up as a samurai. The way she looked so cool in it made him blush.
"We're doing it again, idiot; this time, you're going to get it right." She sternly told him, no room for refusal in her tone.
And that is how he came to be standing in the living room with his back to her just like yesterday, his heart pounding in his chest as he wondered just what was going on. Hideyoshi didn't know why she was doing this, but if this meant he got another chance... he'd take it.
"I'm not letting you go until you get it right, Hideyoshi."
He looked back at her, his blush growing; he took a deep breath, nodding in response to her demand. No matter what, he was going to confess now. Without wasting any time on his false role, Hideyoshi quickly closed the distance between them. "Aneue, and yes I do mean Aneue, I love you! This whole thing has been about you! There's no play-"
Hideyoshi's eyes widened as he was silenced by a kiss, Yuuko grabbing him by his kimono and pulling him against her as her lips pressed against his own, stealing his first kiss without warning. "I love you too, Hideyoshi." She told him, kissing him once more.
