Surprising Mom
Stepping off the plane Kyle Harmon surveyed the scene as he entered the terminal at Miami International Airport. People meeting with their significant other engulfing them in hugs and kisses. While other people were going into the little airport shops looking for last minute gifts to bring home to their loved ones. Kyle was glad to be back in Miami even if it was to visit his family he enjoyed defending his country in Afghanistan. With a smile on his face Kyle entered a flower shop intent on buying some flowers for his step mom Natalia Caine.
Back in the Miami Dade Crime Lab Natalia Caine was busy working in the DNA lab. Matching some DNA samples to a recent crime scene she was working on. Waiting for the results to print out Natalia sighed. Natalia Caine was absolutely miserable for one thing; sure she got letters from her stepson Kyle who was stationed in Afghanistan. But in the last two weeks Natalia received no letters from Kyle and she wondered if he was alright all the way over in Afghanistan. Natalia's husband Horatio told her there was probably nothing to worry about; maybe Kyle didn't have time to write because he was so busy doing something or other. That did little to ease Natalia's fears she may have not given birth to Kyle but she and him were very close regardless. While he was in Afghanistan Kyle and his stepmother Natalia kept in close contact. Now that was over a month ago and Kyle was due home any day now and Natalia couldn't wait to see him more so than her husband Horatio.
Seconds later Kyle Harmon standing outside of the Miami Dade Crime Lab in his army uniform with some flowers cliched in his hands. After paying the taxi driver Kyle took a deep breath taking his uniform cap off and wiped his brow and then went inside. As Kyle entered the Miami Dade Crime Lab he looked around he wanted to surprise his stepmother Natalia; he definitely didn't want to see her right away and vice verse. As Kyle neared the front desk to ask for his stepmother Natalia Caine; while talking to the lady at the front desk a voice suddenly shouted "Hey Kyle how are you doing?" Kyle looked up to see Eric Delektorsky otherwise known as Delko coming towards him with a smile on his face. Once Eric got close to Kyle he asked "What are you doing here?" Scratching the back of his head Kyle responded "Well I'm kind of here to surprise my mom."
Kyle never referred to Natalia as his stepmother; but as a mother he never had. "Well then what are you waiting for Kyle come on" Eric said as he pulled Kyle towards the elevators. A few minutes later Eric and Kyle arrived on the floor where the CSI's worked; Eric told Kyle to stay by the elevators while he scoped out the area to make sure that Natalia Caine was nowhere in sight. All of this commotion caused a certain Calleigh Duquesne to become curious as to what Eric was doing; walking up to where Eric was Calleigh said "Eric what are you doing?" Startled by Calleigh's sudden appearance; Eric said while scratching the back of his head "Calleigh what are you doing here." "Uh I work here Eric in case you have forgotten" Calleigh said a matter of factly; Calleigh also noticed Eric looking anxiously around. "Eric what's up with you" Calleigh started to say with her hands on her hips; then she noticed Kyle and said "Oh hey Kyle I didn't even see you there."
"That's quite alright Calleigh" Kyle replied with a smile. Calleigh then compliment Kyle in his uniform and asked why he was here. "It's to surprise my mom Calleigh" Kyle then added "if that's ok with you that is" Kyle said with a smile. Laughing softly Calleigh looked at Kyle and said "honey you don't need my permission to surprise your mother." Then Calleigh continued to shove Kyle along all the while saying " now get going before she sees you." It didn't take Kyle long to find his mother's office; with a smile on his face Kyle stepped inside and closed the door. Looking around Kyle saw no one around to his relief; walking over to his stepmother's desk Kyle noticed a picture that made him smile it was a picture of him, his mom and his dad. Kyle remembered that day well he was dressed in his uniform it was taken a few days before he would be shipped off to Afghanistan. Kyle then picked up the picture and opened the door so he was behind it. A few minutes later Natalia Caine appeared in her office going over some printouts on the case she was working on.
Glancing up for one minute Natalia looked at her desk and noticed that a picture on her desk was missing. Upon further inspection Natalia realized the picture that was missing off her desk was the picture of her, Kyle and Horatio before Kyle went off to Afghanistan. Looking around Natalia noticed that her office door was open; Natalia then remembered that she didn't remember opening the door in the first place. "What's going on here?" Natalia thought to herself as she tried to think of who would take this particular picture off her desk. Hearing the door creak behind her Natalia paid it no heed she was still trying to figure out who would take that particular picture off her desk. Then Natalia got the feeling that someone or maybe something was behind her; slowly turning around all the while grabbing something to protect herself with because she didn't know if the person behind her was friend or foe. After turning around halfway Natalia heard a voice say "Hey mom how's it been long time no see." Freezing in her tracks then after a few moments Natalia forced her body to turn the rest of the way around; and was greeted with a pleasant surprise. Standing right in front of her with a smile on his face was Natalia Caine's stepson Kyle Harmon; "hey mom" Kyle said again with a small wave. "KYLE!" Natalia screamed running to him and embracing him in a tight hug; which Kyle eagerly returned the pair hugged each other for quite a while.
Breaking the embrace Natalia and Kyle caught up on events that happened while Kyle was away in Afghanistan. "So I take it you're surprised mom" Kyle asked chuckling. "Yes I am surprised Kyle it was a very nice surprise" Natalia chuckled back. Natalia then continued by saying "I honestly thought that when I didn't receive any more letters from you in the last two weeks before you came home I honestly thought something had happened to you. Your father told me not to worry because you were probably busy or something."Chuckling again Kyle said in a somewhat serious tone of voice " I am sorry for worrying mom; but it's true dad was right about one thing though I was busy the last two weeks and I couldn't send any letters." Kyle then quickly said "again mom I am sorry for worrying you." Natalia couldn't help but shake her head and said "Kyle honey that doesn't matter right now. What matters right now is that your home here right now safe and sound with me and your father." Kyle faintly heard his mother whisper into his ear "I don't want to lose you Kyle you mean too much to me." "Like wise mom I don't want to lose you either" Kyle whispered into Natalia's ear in she was about to leave her office to continue working on the case she was currently working on; Natalia promised Kyle that she and Horatio would catch up with him later maybe even take him out as a way of welcoming home. Kyle just laughed and said "You and dad take your time solving this case you're working on. There's no need to rush just because I am back mom." Natalia tried to protest but by then Kyle had already left her office.
