Have you ever been so in love with the idea of someone that you didn't let yourself see the reality of the situation?
He is perfect. His teeth are straight, his nails are clean, his hair is immaculate. He never puts on the same shirt two days running, he always smells like expensive aftershave. His shoes are shiny and his tie compliments his eyes. He looks like he walked right out of a J Crew catalogue and he is everything you ever dreamed of. He opens doors for you, holds your hand in public, kisses you good morning and goodnight. He calls you baby and sweetheart. He never raises his voice, he leaves you cute little notes and compliments you all the time. He treats you like a princess, like you deserve it.
He is Prince Charming but you know he can't be yours. Not now, not ever.
He can't be yours because you have already found perfect. You found perfect in the most unexpected place.
He is perfect. His front tooth is slightly crooked, one is chipped from where he fell down the stairs as a kid. He forgets to cut his nails, ragged from working on his pride and joy, his car. His hair is mussed up, like he just rolled out of bed no matter what he does to it. It reminds you of long hot nights under the sheets, running your fingers through it. He puts back on his clothes from the night before as he leaves your bed. His smell reminds you of teenage passion, of Lynx Africa and missing your curfew. His sneakers are twice the size of yours, you tried them on once like clown shoes and fell around the room with him laughing. He looks like he lives in Bluebell, the plaid flannel shirts that you just want to brush your cheek against and the familiar sense of your new home every time you see him. He is everything you never wanted, and everything you need at the same time. He slams doors when you fight, he argues with you in public, he pushes you up against the wall when he kisses you and runs his hands up and down even though there are people around. He calls you arrogant and annoying. He raises his voice, he leaves you fuming for days and drives you crazy with all his little jibes. He treats you like a friend, like you can never be anything less.
Perfect doesn't have to mean fairytale.
Wade Kinsella is perfect for you.
