The sun rose over a horizon made only of water. Calm water too, the kind that made you relax not tense up with fear of a looming figure holding a knife. No, this sun rise was a good one, with colours painted across the sky in a beauty that almost rivaled the figure next to him.

Said figure was laying back as if he hadn't a bone in his body, a small smile gracing his lips and eyes closed to the sight before him. His once completely black hair was now graced with specks of grey but apart from that he didn't look a day over thirty. How the man managed this was beyond him.

Yesterday had been good too, a celebration of their life here in Atlantis. A celebration of those still with them and a rememberance of those who'd given their lives for them.

Food had been eaten, drinks dissapeared from the table and for once no one cared about military procedure, positions or what the rules back home said they could and could not do. Because they were alive, they were free and they could do what they wanted.

Today would be different. They'd have to go back to hidding it, hidding their relationship, being discreet with only a blanket from Carson when the other was injured as any sign of recognition, because that's all they could afford.

Yet, in front of him was this beautiful sky, full of hope for a time when yesterday could last longer, last after the following dawn, and the dawn after that. When they could have rings not blankets. And when they could show what they felt for each other around those they lived with.

It was hope though that he didn't need. Because in the end he had everything that was important to him. He had his life, his freedom and best of all, he had John.
