The stars above him twinkled, laughing at him, laughing at the man who sat below wishing to be amongst them again. He'd been so far, seen so much and at the end of the day what did he gain? Nothing, he was just an ambassador in a coalition that would never agree on anything if their lives depended on it.

He'd gazed at stars that looked so different to this every day for a year, he had walked on the planets that orbited them. Had fought on them, spilt blood on them. Lived on them. He'd had friends there who would truly look out for him, who were honest. Here, on his own planet, he was a hero. A figure not a man. He hated it.

No bananas.

No weather channel.

He had no freedom.

His dreams were the only escape he had, the only realistic escape in any case. There he wondered again, to those far away places. The universe was peaceful, at rest, because it was his dream and in his hands. He could weave together the constellations, the cultures, the waves of the seas and the light of the stars. He could have it all. Be it all. Sometimes he wondered if this was what Daniel had known when he'd been ascended.

But he would never know, because the universe wasn't his to weave and hold, it was out there. Distant. And he, he was trapped on this planet in which nothing ever happened but bickering between nations.

And the stars laughed on, knowingly.
