Chapter 1

"JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!" I screamed.

"Why?"

"You know why."

My name is Maximum Ride, but people call me Max. And this is the story of… well me.

I'm 15 and I live in sunny Arizona with my abusive father, Jeb, and my little brother Ari, he's 8 by the way. I have sun-streaked hair, I'm 5'7 and very athletic.

I love my family no matter how much they hurt me, but when I'm 18, I'm outta here.

This is how IT started…

"Max! Get in the car now!" Jeb yelled.

"No! I'm not moving to California!"

Jeb stormed over to me and drew his hand back -Smack- Pain seared through my cheek. "I am your father and you will do what I tell you to do!"

"You are not my father"

"I am too, now get in the car now young lady or else you will see a new mark on your brother."

"Fine." I whimpered

I threw my one suitcase in the car and looked over to Ari, fear was scattered in his eyes.

One of these days we will leave that monster, one day soon…

We all hopped in the car and were off.
