The rain poured hard on my face as I sat outside in the storm. The wind sent chills up my spine. Lighting flashed lighting up the sky for only a moment then the black would engulf me again. Night was my only time, the time to be free, to roam as I pleased. I felt my throat burn with thirst. Why would I not drink, could I not accept the fate that I had been given? Ha! What kind of fate is this, being trapped in this world forever! I could not feel the things I could feel before. I was alone. Thunder rumbled in the sky. The storm was growing worse by the minute. People scattered home in the streets trying to cover themselves from the rain. I could not bear the pulsing in my throat any longer; I had to act now if I was ever to relieve myself. I stood up looking around for someone, anyone.

Then I saw her. She was walking alone. She was not rushed home as the others were, but instead she took her time walking. She left her hood down letting her long black hair get wet and stick to her pale face. She looked up from the ground and looked up at me. I looked away as not to give away that I was watching her. She walked up to me. She smiled and said

"Aren't you cold? It's really getting stormy out." Her voice was soft and cool. She was relaxed.

"I'm fine." Was all I said in return.

"You know some people don't like this weather but I think it's kind of nice sometimes."

I nodded in agreement. I could hardly focus on the words she said. I all could hear was the beating of her heart. It was as loud as the thunder in my ears. Every sense was turned towards her. I could smell her and taste her. But when I looked at her I couldn't, I just couldn't continue with what I was going to do. She looked at me strangely and said

"You seem different to me…lonely somehow are you okay?"

I nodded again.

My lips thirsted more and more. I could feel my eyes dilate. I felt like time was going too fast, and then it happened. I grabbed her by the wrist pulling her close. My lips moved swiftly to her neck. I hear her gasp in surprise and her fists pounded into my chest. But I was no longer control of my body, it moved on its own unwilling to pull away. I extended my fangs and felt the warm fluid go down my throat. Relief...finally I felt energy swelling within me. Her struggling began to grow weaker and weaker. My hands gripped her tightly not wanting to let go.

At last my thirst was quenched. I pulled away from the girl. She was limp in my arms but I could still feel her pulse. I had not killed her. She moaned slightly in my arms. Her heart beat was weak now unlike before. I carried her gently under some trees to give her shelter from the storm.

"I'm sorry," I whispered quietly in her ear. She only twitched. I know she couldn't hear me. I walked away from her vanishing into the shadow of the trees. The shadows were my only home. The girl lived in the light, while I lived among the shadows unable to join her. The storm began to calm as the sun rose.
