Remus opened his eyes as he felt the weight shift beside him. He rolled over to see Sirius getting dressed in a hurry.
"Where are you going?" Remus asked, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
"Walk."
Remus sat up, the covers falling to reveal his bare chest and stomach, "But it's early, the sun isn't even up yet."
"Don't care."
Sirius stood and yanked back the curtains, not bothering to close them again as he left the dormitory.

Sirius didn't appear again until lunch. Naturally James bombarded him with questions as to his whereabouts, but Sirius kept insisting that it wasn't important and it didn't matter. A few times, he glanced at Remus, who used his eyes to tell Sirius that he wanted to talk to him privately
He never told him that he knew Sirius would never say it.

Remus finally managed to get Sirius on his own in a disused classroom.
"You hate me." Sirius stated rather than asked.
Remus raised an eyebrow, "Why would I hate you?"
"Because I walked out on you this morning." Sirius said, as though it were the most obvious thing in the world, "I don't even know why I did it."
"Sirius..."
"I wouldn't blame you if you hated me, I even hate me..."
Remus cut him off with a soft kiss, "I don't hate you Sirius. I can't hate you, because I love you."

Remus struggled to hold Harry back as they watched Sirius fall through the Veil. The werewolf's heart was beating rapidly, threatening to shatter into a million pieces.
None of this was supposed to happen. He had lost Sirius, found him, and now he was losing him all over again.
It wasn't supposed to happen.
