My take on what Riku went through before/during/after Sora woke/wake/wakes up. I had fun writing this, however depressing it is, and although my grammar sucks, I'm not a Japanese person learning English for the first time and thus cannot own Kingdom Hearts. Now for a stupid request. If anyone knows how to insert French accents into texts, can you tell me how? Okay read this...interesting...thing...now.

A clashing of swords

A downfallen Nobody rises again determined

An exchange of words that are nothing more but script for the people using them

The words sound right together but neither of the actors seems to know

...or remember...

Why?

A fall from grace

Or an escape to darkness

The battle ends under fluorescent lighting

Both having lost more than they know as the true red clad victor takes stage...

The day of Sora's awakening was supposed to be a celebration for Riku. Heck! It was supposed to be a celebration in general! That's what he had though when Namine began to repair Sora's memory at least. He hadn't been expecting what had happened. Riku had truly believed that as the closest person to Sora's heart that he wouldn't completely forget his best friend...

That hadn't been the case...

Instead he had forgotten Sora, and only had a jumble of words in his head that he believed the person in the white egg-shaped capsule would have the proper responses to. With nothing to remember, all Riku could do was rely on what DiZ told him; That the person in the capsule was a boy named Sora who also wielded a key blade, that they were supposed to know each other well, and that he should help with the boy's awakening by capturing his Nobody.

Things had been explained to him but all he had really cared about was doing everything in his power to help the brown haired boy like his heart told him he should. How DiZ had told him he should. So Riku had gone to the World that Never Was and found someone strikingly similar to his locked away friend. This was the person that DiZ wanted. This was the person that could help save Sora. They fought and eventually Riku gave himself up for power not knowing of the true consequences it would hold in the future. He appeared victorious...

...for now...

That had been the time that Riku was ignorant to the situation. Now that Sora had all the memories that he would ever be allowed to have back Riku also remembered everything he ever knew about Sora. Everything that had taken place between them in the previous year. Why he should have feared the dark power given to him. Why his face would not be welcomed by the boy so close to him when he awoke.

Now Riku knew...he was no longer Riku, he was Ansem. He finally knew why that name had brought with it a feeling of shame. He had originally hoped to wake his friend so that they could return home together. Now Riku knew that there was no "home" for him, and certainly no going back there if there was such. Riku could no longer stand by his best friend. Could no longer spend his days in the light.

He had been banished to darkness all over again. This time by himself, in both meanings of the phrase. He had subjected himself to spend the rest of his life alone in darkness, and this time there was no escape.

The silver haired man could not completely accept his fate however and chose to still walk along his friend, though he was always just a few too many steps away for the younger one to catch up. It amused him that Sora was looking for him the whole time, just as he had been looking for Sora before.

It was less amusing however that they both would be unable to find the other. Their worlds were too far apart. One shrouded in darkness. The other cloaked in light. Riku had decided that if his fate was to be so melancholy, that he did not want Sora to find him.

So Riku hid...

...burying himself deeper into his comforting darkness...

...Watching the show, but never again to perform...
