Comfort

Gil walked Catherine away from the ambulance holding Kleeper and towards his car. He decided that taking care if Catherine was more important than dealing with processing the scene. Once he reached his car, he helped Catherine into the passenger seat and then walked around and took his position in the driver seat. Without waiting to see if Catherine would protest he started the car and began to drive in the direction of Catherine's house.

The ride past in silence and by the time they arrived at her house, Catherine had calmed down slightly. Gil parked and then got out and helped Catherine to the door and inside the house. Deciding that she needed to rest, Gil steered her up the stairs and to her bedroom. Catherine sat down on the bed and continued to stare into space so Gil bent down and took off her shoes. Gently Gil pushed her into a lying position and covered her with the quilt that was lying at the bottom of her bed. Gil kissed Catherine's forehead as she closed her eyes to sleep. As he turned to leave, Catherine grabbed his arm and whispered "Stay please?"

The fact that these were the first words that Gil heard he speak all night and the slightly pleading tone the words were utter in made it impossible for Gil to refuse Catherine. So he slipped off his shoes, flipped open his cell and called and informed Warrick that he was in charge for the night. Work having been dealt with Gil walked over to the other side of the bed and climbed in. As soon as Gil was settled, Catherine turned around and put her head on his chest and almost immediately fell to sleep.

The next morning Catherine woke up alone, but the smell of coffee and bacon reached her nose. Slowly she got out of bed and made her way down to the kitchen. At the doorway she stopped to watch Gil make breakfast along with Lindsey. The sight of her best friend and daughter making breakfast cheered her up just enough for her to make her presence known. Lindsey was the first to greet her and told her that breakfast was almost ready and that she should sit down. So she did as she was told and the three of them sat down to enjoy a simple breakfast.

Just as Gil was leaving, Catherine said "Thank you for being here for me last night."

"Any time." Gil answered as he exited through the front door to go home for the few hours they had before work.
