Gilbert Beilschmidt held the ring in between his thumb and pointer finger, watching it gleam brightly in the sunlight. He rotated it, just so he could see it shine in the light from all angles, and smiled a bit as he read the engraving on the inside. Home.

Gilbert Beilschmidt and Matthew Williams had been engaged for almost three months now, and every single day had been simply wonderful. The German had been so lost and confused before he'd met him, and now he'd found his light in the darkness.

"Quite beautiful in the light, huh?" a soft voice interrupted his musing.

Gilbert looked up and a broad smile crossed his lips. There, in front of him, stood Matthew himself, dawned in his familiar red jacket, a light smile of his own upon his lips.

"Ja, I do this a lot when I'm thinking."

The wind blew a bit as Gilbert scooted over from his spot underneath his three. Matthew sat down next to him, hugging his knees to his chest. "Oh? And what do you think about?"

"A lot of things. My past, how Lud is doing, how I'm doing now…" he paused, and gave his signature grin. "Our future together. I think about that a lot when I see the engraving for 'Home.'"

The Canadian laughed a bit. "You know, sometimes I think of that too. I think of how successful our life together can be."

"As successful as we want. Are you doubting our awesome relationship, Birdie?" Gilbert question with mock horror, though it was clear he was teasing.

Matthew shook his head. "No, no! That's not it at all. I'm just curious, is all."

The blond then held up his pinky finger, illuminated by the sunlight.

"Feliciano once told me the story of the Red String Of Fate…do you believe in it, Gilbert?" Matthew inquired, looking at him.

The way the sun his hair and his face made his violet eyes stand out, and Gilbert felt himself blush. He almost looked angelic, he thought.

"Y-yeah. I guess. I mean…" the albino held out his own finger. "If it's invisible, then we obviously can't see it, so we can't prove or disprove it. And…I guess I have to be connected to someone, am I right?"

"Right…I believe it. I used to always think I was alone, until he told me that story. So…I have to be tied to someone…" the Canadian said in his usual voice, though it seemed to be bursting with emotion.

"Then, whom do you think you're tired to?" he tested, almost teasing again.

Matthew then laughed. "I'd figured you'd already know that. I think it's you."

Gilbert laughed as well. "I guess we agree then. Because I'm one hundred and ten percent sure my string is connect to yours. Because I'm in love with a place I feel safe, home, I suppose."

"What do you mean?" the blond asked, resting his head on the albino's shoulder. He held up his own ring to the light, reading the inscription on his. Hope.

The German paused, for a moment, and then his grin widened. "Home, I love home. And what I mean is, Birdie, that your heart is my home."
