He fell asleep crying about her again.
He still longs for her, longs for her to come back to him. But everyone knows that it's not possible. She's gone, and nothing can change that.
Tails loved Cosmo, and nobody could ever change that, either. And he missed her. It seemed like the twin-tailed fox would be like this forever. Forever grieving the Seedrian's death.
But tonight that would all change.
Tails woke up in an unfamiliar home, surrounded by potting plants and roses. He carefully examined his environment, not knowing what to do in the situation that he woke up somewhere different then he fell asleep. "Tails!" he heard a soft voice call. "Finally, you're awake! It seems like you've been asleep forever!" The boy looked up to find the slightly matured Cosmo.
"C-Cosmo? Is- is that you?" he slowly stuttered. The Seedrian just laughed. "Of course it is, silly! We've been married for five years, for heaven's sake!" The fox gasped. "B-but, you... died!" he choked out. "Oh, you must have had a nightmare! It's okay, I'm right here!" She put her arms around the shocked Tails. "A-a dream?" His apparent wife nodded. "But it felt so... so real."
"Well, it's a good thing it's over, right?" he nodded. "So- where's Sonic and the others?" Cosmo looked down. "I guess the nightmare made you forget about reality.." He suddenly panicked. "Well, could you remind me? I guess I did forget..." She started crying. "But Tails, I don't want you to start mourning again! You just got over it!"
"Please, Cosmo!" he begged. "I promise, I won't go back into grieving!" The Seedrian sniffed. "Okay. Remember that last day we fought the Metarex?" he nodded. "Well, we were about to be defeated, when the leader gave me a chance to live if I gave in. I said that I would agree if I could bring my friends, but he said that I could only bring one friend." her voice cracked. "I thought that we wouldn't have a chance anyways, so I said that I would bring you, and everyone else-" she started to sob. "W-was k-killed! I'm so sorry, Tails! It was all my fault! I should have stood my ground! It's my fault!"
Tails just stared blankly at the wall for a few moments, as if time was frozen. What? They were dead? He looked down at the crying Cosmo. "C-Cosmo..." he tried to search for the right words to say. "I know exactly how you feel." He knelt down and put his arms around her. Is this what love feels like? When someone you love did something horrible, but you still don't care? "T-Tails... wake up." "W-what?" "Wake up now, Tails! Wake up!"
"Wake up Tails!" The blue hedgehog shook the fox awake. Tails shot right out of his bed, his breath deep and heavy, sweat forming on his body. "You sounded like you were having a nightmare! Are you okay? The younger creature just nodded in response. "I'll go get you a drink of water." With that, Sonic sped into the other room. "Cosmo.." Tails said to himself. "I really miss you, but maybe... maybe it was the right choice..."
