Momo and Kairi, now graduated, return to the beach where they first met. He loves her, but when the sight of the water brings back some unwelcomed memories, might he have second thoughts? ONESHOT
--
A setting sun, the deep blue ocean, his girlfriend in his arms... it should have all been perfect. But somehow, for some unknown reason, it just wasn't. He looked on to the water as he studied the sun's reflection.
They had finally graduated. Actually, it had been a few years since the end of the high school drama. Sure, they'd had their fights since then, breaking up and getting back together, but they were here now, and that was all that mattered. But there was something, or rather someone, Kairi had a hard time leaving behind.
It was Misao Aki, his old school nurse.
She was beautiful; he couldn't deny that part. He had loved her with a fire, but that was all over, now that he had Momo. He had had such a hard time leaving her behind when he graduated, but he stayed by Momo ever since, and he had never been lonely. Of course, there were some times when he missed her more than anything, but that, he knew, was inevitable.
Looking over at his flame-haired girlfriend, he didn't regret leaving at all. He loved her, that was for sure. That, as a matter of fact, might have been the only thing he was really sure of, there in front of the ocean.
In the water, he thought he could see the reflection of Misao on the water. He flinched. It sounded so easy, letting her go, but it was so impossible. How could anyone not love her? Or, more accurately, stop loving her when they did?
But Kairi knew it was possible to love more than one girl in a lifetime, and this was it.
Standing here, next to her, watching the sunset, wondering how he got here in the first place, he knew from the reflection on the water that nothing could tear them apart.
"Momo?" Kairi whispered, reluctant to break the perfect silence.
"What is it?" She looked over at him.
"I love you." Momo's eyes widened. He hadn't said that to her for years.
"I..." She paused, still overcome by the raging emotions as strong as the tide. "First place?" She couldn't form the whole sentence, but they both knew what she meant.
"First place." He kissed her, and as she kissed back, the words exploded into love, flaming in the air. This was something that could last for a long, long time, their love reflecting in the water, surrounded by the flaming red sun.
