A/N: I'm tired. My mind decided I just had to upload this at 2 AM. Seriously. I woke up and said "I need to upload Rivals."

Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto. I own a Naruto plushie.

Of Rivals

She had a major crush on Naruto, so it was only natural that she wanted to be noticed by him. Sasuke could totally get that.

He was Naruto's best friend, so it was only natural that he was around Naruto most of the time. Hinata could totally get that.

What neither of them could get, though, was why the other simply existed, and why the other existed near Naruto.

Sasuke thought she was a closet fan girl, just dying to screech and attach to Naruto's arm like a leech every time the blonde came around. Her blushing and stammering was annoying-- couldn't she say a complete sentence for once?

Hinata thought he was an asshole, secretly enjoying the horde of fan girls following him everywhere he went, no matter how much he insulted them. His glaring and snapping was scary-- couldn't he say a complete sentence for once?

God, he hated her.

God, she hated him.

Sasuke was ashamed of himself. From the Kyuubi vessel, to Hyuuga Hinata as his rival. The clumsy, weak, and pathetic Hyuuga heiress he had never cared about. And they were rivals over Naruto's attention. Why couldn't she just withdraw? It was his Naruto, damn it!

Okay. That had came out wrong.

Hinata couldn't believe herself at all. She, of all people, had a rival, and it was Uchiha Sasuke. The sarcastic, mean, and apathetic Uchiha heir she had never really liked. And they were rivals over Naruto's love. Why couldn't he just withdraw? It was her Naruto, damn it!

Okay. Naruto didn't belong to her.

Yet.

And neither of them could believe said blonde, and that was probably the only thing they agreed about.

Was he really that oblivious to what happened around him? Because, seriously, even Choji had pulled them aside and asked them what the fuck was up with all those death glares across the room and that avoiding of going to places where the other would be.

Sakura had even tried to use the overly-used Operation Closet on them, hoping they would solve whatever problem they had with each other.

The fact that they both came out all bruised and bloodied was an obvious sign they hadn't.

Maybe Naruto was just pretending he didn't know what was happening!

…Nah. He was too dumb for that.

Still, all that aside, they were, in a really really weird way, good to each other.

Yeah, you heard --or read-- me.

Feel free to die now.

Because they were rivals, and therefore, they wanted to be better than the other. In this case, being better than the other at the task of being Naruto's friend.

That meant they both learned very valuable lessons about friendship and love, and all that cheesy stuff, and Naruto could honestly say he didn't have friends as good as Hinata and Sasuke.

A/N: There you go! Enjoy now, while I go to get my much undeserved sleep. Bye!
