A quiet moaned emanated from pink lips.
Why did she have to go to work this morning? Any morning to be exact. Nuzzling her head into the firm chest that she was currently laying next to she groaned at the unfairness of life. Why did Mondays have to come so fast? She knew that she was being dramatic, but right now she didn't want to be anywhere else. Opening her eyes and peering up a smile broke out on her lips. She was rewarded with the sight of unruly raven locks, strong features, and the most of famous scar in the wizarding world. Absent mindlessly she snaked a hand up and through his hair, gently fingering it back and forth. She always reveled in how truly soft it was. He shifted under her remonstrations tightening his hold around her waist and pulling her closer.
Hermione smiled even wider if it was possible. For the last year this had been her wake up routine. Held in the arms of none other than her oldest best friend Harry Potter. She traced her hand down his face laughing a little at out much he had changed. His features were grown now, he was truly a handsome man. This face had witnessed horrors that most other individuals could never comprehend. His brow relaxed as she drew circles on his cheek with her thumb.
How they arrived in bed together now was a gradual progression in her mind. He was the center of her life. Years of worrying, fretting, and all together stressing over his safety had culminated into something that ran deeper than mere friendship. Of course it took her an entire year on the run living day by day with the threat of death over her shoulder to admit her feelings just to herself. She was his 'constant' is what he told her. One random day after Ron had left them in the tent. She could remember every moment from that day.
The whicking of the dying fire that stood between them. The dimming light of the sun behind the tree line. The slight stubble that ran across his set jaw. He just blurted it out breaking the set silence that had grown between them. After those words fell between them a conversation broke out. Which eventually led to their first kiss. Merlin their first kiss... She closed her eyes and nuzzled her head into the crook of his neck. It was like someone flipped on a switch. Every worry she had felt for the man next to her was based on friendship. But, more than that it was based on love. A love that ran deeper than anything she could ever believe.
The man next to her was her best friend. And if she would have known that waking up next to him would be like this...She definitely would have acted sooner.
