Hey guys, I'm back! I've gotten started on another chapter for Adversity, but I had this (REALLY CHEESY) idea for a story and decided to write it out really quick. It's another one-shot, but it's not nearly as long as Letters. It was just an idea I got randomly. It's super cliche and sappy, but why not post it? I like some of that stuff from time-to-time, anyways. So here it is! I hope you like it! :)
Sunsets
It had only been two months after she'd returned home when Mulan was summoned to join the army once again. She tried to make some light of the situation, remembering that she'd get to see Shang, and of course the rest of her friends. When she arrived, Shang had promoted her, saying that she'd be second in command. She was very honored for this, but was even more happy to be able to spend more time with Shang. So, they did. Every morning and evening, she would report to his tent, and the two of them would discuss training. They would usually be finished by the time the sun rose or went down, unless of course something had gone awry during training. One night in particular, they'd decided to meet outside of his tent, for reasons which he did not explain.
Mulan arrived before he did. He had told her to meet under the large tree away from the tents. She didn't know why he'd wanted to meet there, but she wasn't going to question his motives or anything. She sat down under the tree with her back against its trunk and sighed, looking around for him. Soon enough, she saw him walking over to her, though he didn't look ready to discuss training at all. He was wearing casual clothing and had nothing with him. He looked nervous as ever and hardly looked at her as he walked over and sat down.
"Hi." He said, glancing at her. Mulan raised an eyebrow. Was that all he could say?
"Shang," She faced him, "Why are we out here?"
"No reason. I... Thought it would be nice to take a break from discussing strategy for an evening."
She nodded. "So we're just going to sit and talk under this tree, then?"
"That's the plan, unless you have any better ideas, of course." He said. He was still nervous, she could tell, though he seemed to have loosened up slightly.
"Well, this is pretty nice, I guess."
The two looked out at the horizon in silence. As they did, the sun slowly began its descent over the vast mountains and hillsides in the distance.
"We should come out here more often," Mulan thought aloud. "It's like our regular conversations, just with a view."
Shang nodded. "A beautiful one." He said, looking at her as he said it. She noticed out of the corner of her eye and turned to him.
He noticed that she had seen him, so he quickly tried to cover up his mistake. "The view, I mean. I-It's beautiful, and... It's..." He looked at her and got lost in her eyes, forgetting whatever lame excuse he was going to use. He swallowed and gently put his hand atop hers.
"It's wonderful. And it's gorgeous, and magnificent, and brilliant, and..." He paused. "I... Really like you, Mulan. I adore you."
At this point, Mulan was almost as surprised as Shang was when he said that. Still, she smiled and laced her fingers with his.
"I love you, too, Shang."
I told you that was cheesy and dumb. Anyways I hope you liked it :) I'll try to have another chapter of Adversity out in the next week or so, but school is starting in just a few days so I'm not sure how much time I'll have to write. Thanks so much for being patient with me :) (Please review if you have anything to say about the story!)
