A/N: I do not own Law & Order: Special Victims Unit or it's characters. This story is mine and is a work in progress. Here is the first chapter of a longer fic I am writing.

She breathes in slowly through her nose. Coffee. She needed this. She closes her eyes, letting the smell enveloped her senses. It gives her a sense of calm.

Olivia opens her eyes again. She adjusts in her seat, pulling herself closer to the beautiful coffee and thought of the brown liquid slipping down her throat.

A fifteen hour day has come and gone, and she's now got a day off. She takes a sip of coffee, smirking at the paintings that cover the walls in this little coffee shop. It's close to her apartment, not too far of a walk. She pulls her lip between her teeth, biting down as a thought crosses her mind.

It always comes back to him. Whenever her mind wanders. It comes back and haunts her. She never thinks of the fucked up things that have happened since he's left, or the ache that builds in her heart whenever she's with someone new. No, she thinks of him.

"No," Olivia mutters to herself. She shakes her head and looks around. Her seat is in the corner with her back to the wall. It used to be his seat when he came, he'd always watch her back while she sat across from him.

She blinks a few times as a smile creeps across her face. A man appears at the doorway of the coffee shop. Her police academy training still comes in handy to this day. Feet to features, she thinks. He's wearing white sneakers, jeans, and a long sleeve blue sweater. Mid-forties but in good shape. Abs, but drinks beer and likes to eat. No ring on his finger. The more she gathers about this man the more she's intrigued. Her eyes flicker up to his face.

Her breath catches in her throat. It's him. He's standing in the doorway staring at her.

Elliot.

She feels every feeling flooding back to her. It's 1998 again, she's nervous, she's being partnered for the first time with a handsome man in her first specialized unit. Almost ten years later she leaves him for the first time, and things got so complicated. There were times she was so close to becoming his that she could taste his breath on her tongue. Moments that would be forever engrained her head next to this one.

This one memory of him. Blue eyes looking guilty, sad, and hurt. Cocking his head to the side as if checking to see if it's really her.

"Hi," she chokes out. He strides towards her. Olivia blinks quickly, not sure of the protocol.

"Olivia." Elliot breathes. "I've missed you so much." He pulls her into a tight hug, a move that brings stinging tears to her eyes. She hugs him back, taking in all the scents that make him up. How can she be here with him? So many questions fill her mind.

"Come take a walk with me."
