This takes place on the first Christmas after Yukino and Soichiro graduate. Spoilers for the last volume.
I am dreaming tonight of a place I love
Even more than I usually do
And although I know it's a long road back
I promise you
Yukino bundled the little girl up tightly. She didn't want her to catch cold, even though the drive to her parents' house was not far.
Sakura was now 5 months old, and Yukino was a very protective first time mother. She tried not to be nervous and overly cautious, but she always found herself thinking about the worst possible scenerio, and doing all that she could to prevent it from coming. She often didn't feel like she was overprotective, considering how Soichiro-kun normally acted.
"Will she be warm enough? It would be so easy for her to get sick this time of year. All the germs that everyone is carrying. Maybe would should just stay home," Soichiro said, taking Sakura from his wife.
"Don't worry so much. She'll be fine. My parents already said that they cleaned every inch of the house, and no one has been sick for the past three weeks!" Yukino tried to reassure him.
"Okay." The three of them bundled up tightly, and began the short journey to the Miyazawa home. Soichiro and Yukino were renting an apartment just three miles away from their old high school, and they were within 10 miles of both of their family homes. Both had realized the immense pressure that would come from being newlyweds, as well as brand new parents, so they kept their families close for support.
"Yuki-chan! Soichiro-kun! You're here!" Kano greeted them. She took baby Sakura from them so that they could remove their coats and hang them in the closet. When Yukino tried to take the baby back however, Kano turned away and walked down the hall.
"Oh, there's my granddaughter!" Mr. Miyazawa said. He took Sakura from Kano and began to rock her gently in his arms.
"Dad! Can I please have my baby back?" Yukino asked, slightly frustrated that her family seemed to like Sakura more than her.
"What? Oh, in a minute Yuki-chan."
I'll be home for Christmas
You can count on me
Please have snow and mistletoe
And presents on the tree
Yukino turned to Soichiro and shrugged her shoulders. This was just the way it was going to be.
"Yuki-chan! You're just in time for dinner," Mrs. Miyazawa said, gathering her daughter into her arms. Yukino finally felt like someone cared about her.
The family sat down for dinner, Sakura sitting wide-eyed on her grandfather's lap. She was very comfortable with the family, but something about the evening was making her still and calm.
As the family began to eat, Soichiro turned to Yukino as if asking permission for something. She nodded, and he stood up.
"Thank you very much for this meal, it's delicious. I'm so glad that we're able to share this time together, and to have family close by." Soichiro paused. "Yukino and I would like you all to know that...we're expecting another child!"
The family went crazy with the news. Everyone began congratulating the couple, and Kano wanted to rub Yukino's belly.
"Maybe it's twins!" Mrs. Miyazawa said, her eyes twinkling in delight.
Yukino and Soichiro looked at each other in shock. Anything but that.
Christmas Eve will find you
Where the love light gleams
I'll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams
Merry Christmas to all!
