Heard Rizzoli and Isles was coming up with a new season so I watched all of the old ones. When I got to season 3 I kind of just thought Doyle hesitated too long and kind of filled in the blanks myself. I actually always liked him in his own way he did what he had to.

No he wouldn't have…but when you see your daughter hurting like she was and unable to do anything else for her it's easy to play the bad guy. Especially when you were the bad guy already. He loved her, always has, and was always going to. But his way of loving put her in danger and this woman…this cop, she protected her when he didn't, in ways he couldn't.

Right now they were both broken, he could see what they couldn't. Both in turmoil both wanting forgiveness and to forgive, but neither knowing where to begin the healing process. They needed help. Without the other no girl was complete. They couldn't see that, everyone else could. He'd watched both of them, Maura first; most of her life he was in the background making sure no one discovered her link to him. When she joined the force he thought his job would be harder, but Rizzoli stepped up and became the protector he couldn't. In every way that mattered Rizzoli was there for his daughter. After a while he started looking out for her too. If something happened to the young Italian his daughter would never be the same. He protected his own. Both of them.

So when his daughter asked him if he would kill her, he thought about telling her the truth. Telling her no, that Rizzoli meant too much to her for him to kill her. But the look in both their eyes….they needed each other. Needed peace. He could never be a real father to her but he could help her from behind the scenes again. "Hell yea." He rasped, "You're a cop."

He thought Rizzoli's eyes might have softened for a second. Like she knew what he just did, but a second later she reached out to Maura. And Maura went. It wasn't much, but it was a start, perhaps they would become even closer than before. They were both in love with each other and neither willing to admit it. As much as he'd watched from the sidelines he knew this. He still remembered her words, 'Anything you want I'll get it.' His inside man told him Rizzoli was panicked and filled with heart ache. Those were the words she spoke when she thought Doyle was calling for ransom. His little girl was in good hands. The cop would throw out the rule book if anything happened to Maura, perhaps it was time he stopped shadowing her and just let her live. After he made sure they made up anyways.

Then there was this little thing about jail he needed to deal with. God he was getting a little too old for all this.
