"Daddy! Daddy!" Noelle yelled.
"What? What's wrong?" her father burst into her room.
"I can't sleep. Are you sure Santa's coming tonight? What if he forgets our house?" The five year old stared wide-eyed, her blue eyes matching his.
"Guess what? I put a big light on top of the roof just a minute ago. Santa should be able to see it all the way from the North Pole, so I don't think he'll forget us," he said.
"Oh, good. Do you think he'll like the milk and cookies I left him?"
"I'm sure he will. Now go to sleep. You know Santa can't come until after you're asleep."
The little girl nodded, then sank back into her bed. "I love you Daddy."
"I love you too Sweetheart."
Children sleeping, snow is softly falling
Dreams are calling like bells in the distance
We were dreamers not so long ago
But one by one we all had to grow up
When it seems the magic's slipped away
We find it all again on Christmas day
"That was sweet," Relena said, grabbing Heero as he left their daughter's room.
"Well, anything to help her sleep. I don't ever remember having that much excitement on Christmas."
Relena looked at him for a moment. "Did you have a Christmas growing up?"
Heero looked away, and Relena could already anticipate the answer. "I was always told that Christmas was frivolous and a waste of time."
Believe in what your heart is saying
Hear the melody that's playing
There's no time to waste
There's so much to celebrate
Believe in what you feel inside
And give your dreams the wings to fly
You have everything you need
If you just believe
Relena led him to sit down on the couch next to her. She put her head on his shoulder to comfort him, and began speaking softly. "Christmas for me was always the best time of year. My father was home, my mother and I would bake for hours on hours, and the whole house smelled like pine from our fresh cut tree. We sang songs to one another, my father very off-key."
Heero bowed his head again. He rubbed Relena's expanding belly, and thought about his daughter tucked into her bed, not a care above that of Santa Claus. "What did I do to deserve all this?" he vocalized.
Trains move quickly to their journey's end
Destinations are where we begin again
Ships go sailing far across the sea
Trusting starlight to get where they need to be
When it seems that we have lost our way
We find ourselves again on Christmas day
"Heero, we are all here because of what you've done. You have been something even more miraculous than Santa Claus. You helped bring about peace. Our efforts have insured that for the past 11 years, and for many years to come, children can go to bed believing in Santa Claus. They don't have to worry about war; all they know is peace," Relena said. "Believe in yourself."

There's so much to celebrate

Merry Christmas!
