If he were honest, Masamune had hoped Hana would be afraid of thunder.
The storm had come upon them suddenly, and the two of them – thankfully, wonderfully alone – had been forced to run for a nearby rain shelter. Of course, they weren't the only ones taking shelter there, but the other people didn't count. They were just ordinary Kyoto folk. As long as Kojyuuroh and Four-eyes weren't there, it was like they were alone.
When this scene played out in his imagination, Hana would be scared of thunder, and would whimper and take his hand. Then Masamune would wrap his arms around his beloved, and be comforting and cool – which he totally was – and Hana's face would be buried in his chest and they'd end up admitting their love for each other. (Masamune neglected to remember, in these fantasies, that he'd already made his feelings for Hana very clear. Many times.)
In reality, though, Hana just stood beside him with a look of vague disappointment.
Reality and imagination never meshed well.
But surely Hana was disappointed because the storm had cut into their time together, right? Time spent standing in a rain shelter was time they could be doing… other things.
If only Masamune had thought to bring an umbrella! Then they could – wait, no, no, you couldn't use an umbrella in a thunderstorm, could you? Damn you, common sense!
So now what? He looked around – there! Just down the street, a noodle shop! Really, he was surprised Hana hadn't noticed it first, but it was better this way. Now he could play the hero.
He nudged his adorable friend, pointing in the direction of the shop. Hana's eyes widened, but Masamune threw his arms around his companion before Hana could dart off. "Wait a moment," he said. Wide red eyes turned on him, but Hana said nothing.
The boy pulled off his jacket, holding it over their heads to make a temporary shield from the rain. "Come on!" he cried.
The two young people ran out into the weather. Masamune had to work a bit to keep up with Hana, but it was worth it when they arrived at the restaurant still mostly dry.
"Eat all you want," Masamune told Hana as they were welcomed. "It's my treat."
Hana smiled at him, taking his hand. "Thank you, Masamune."
Masamune could have died of happiness right there.
A/N: If you use an umbrella during a thunderstorm, lightning will be attracted to the metal in the frame and you'll be electrocuted.
I feel like i'm avoiding Hana a bit when i'm writing, but... Hana is hard to write! *cries* Maa-kun on the other hand is super easy.
