Disclaimer: I don't own anyone or anything. Except Molly.

Note: This is a "Sequel" To If The Sun Never Shone. I would suggest reading If The Sun Never Shone, before reading this. Might ruin it.

Authors Note: OK. Remember now, Nobody knows about Walt, except Scott. Daisy's mother isn't dead. Shelby has only been at Horizon for a year, and same goes for all the rest. For those of you that read If The Sun Never Shone, you'll probably remember. Those that haven't this might be a bit confusing.

If The Sun Never Shone, Sequel
****

The winter here's cold, and bitter
it's chilled us to the bone
we haven't seen the sun for weeks
to long too far from home
I feel just like I'm sinking
and I claw for solid ground
I'm pulled down by the undertow
I never thought I could feel so low
oh darkness I feel like letting go

Shelby looked out the window of the bus. Daisy was asleep next to her. Shelby tried to erase the memories of her stepfather. She felt a tear fall down her face, she quickly wiped it away before anyone would notice. She turned to see if Daisy was still asleep, she was. And Shelby looked at her watch. She only had 15 minutes until she was home. She wondered who would meet her at the bus station. If Walt showed up she didn't know what she would do. She hadn't seen him since she ran away. But, at least Daisy would be there with her. Daisy tapped Shelby on the shoulder.

"Don't tell me you were crying." Daisy said under a yawn.

Shelby shrugged and turned away. She mumbled under her breath, "Fine I won't tell you then."

"So this is where you are from?" Daisy asked looking over Shelby's head to see outside.

Shelby nodded, "Yeah home sweet home."

"Seems very quiet." Daisy noted. She didn't want to say it but she thought Shelby would come from somewhere more street like and dangerous. It was weird seeing a nice, quaint town.

Shelby giggled lightly to herself, "You probably thought it would be where Juliette would live or Scott, no someone like me."

"What do you mean, 'someone like you'?" Daisy asked already knowing the answer to the question.

Shelby rolled her eyes, "You know what I mean."

"No, I don't." Daisy said, trying not sound as if she is prying.

Shelby sighed. She paused, she didn't want to spell it out for her. She didn't want to really tell her either. "I'm not exactly the type of girl that lives in this area with my background."

"Where you live doesn't at all reflect on who you are." Daisy told her.

Shelby shrugged, "I know that. I don't know. It just I was thinking before."

"About Scott?" Daisy asked with a little grin.

Shelby nodded, "Yeah nothing important though."

"I'm not going to beg Shelby. Tell me or don't. I'm not going to ask you again." Daisy told Shelby.

Shelby smiled lightly. She debated telling Daisy. Letting her guard down. She pushed her hair back out of her face and nodded. "It just we got into this huge fight. And he wanted me to stay with him. And I said no, and well we kind of left angry with one another."

"You worry too much Shelby. Scott loves you, its actually kind of sickening. When you were away he missed you so much he was sad. When he wasn't wallowing in self pity, he was wallowing because you weren't there. But, as much as he might be self-centered you see something in him, I don't know what it is you see in him but, you see something. And he sees something in you." Daisy lectured Shelby with a small grin.

Daisy looked at the front of the bus. People were packing up their bags and standing up to pull them down. "We there?"

Shelby rolled her eyes and sighed heavily. "Yeah. I was hoping the bus would get lost or something."

"Well, lets get our bags. Do you see your family?" Daisy asked standing up.

Shelby looked out the window. She shook her head, "Nope. They're usually late. They will probably been even later since its me thats coming in."

"Well, then get up and help me." Daisy said trying to take out their bags.

Shelby stood up and spotted her stepfather, Walt standing with her mother and younger sister, Jess. Her heart sunk. She dreaded seeing her stepfather. She saw Jess smile and her mother's eyes tear. Walt waved to her with a stupid grin. Shelby felt hatred that minute. "He's here." Shelby muttered.

Daisy walked down the aisle of the bus and then off the bus. She waited for Shelby, who was taking her time. Shelby made it down the steps of the bus. Jess and her mother ran over to give Shelby a hug. This was the first time they had seen her since she ran away. Shelby's mother was crying and Jess was so excited. Walt made his way over and tried to hug Shelby. Shelby was reluctant but, gave him a little hug. Shelby took notice. Shelby's mother shook Daisy's hand. And so did Jess and Walt.

"Welcome home honey." Shelby's mother smiled. She signaled for Hank to take the girls bags and started walking. "It is so good to have you home Shelby."

Shelby faked a smile and walked next to Daisy hoping that Walt wouldn't try to talk to her or hug her with Daisy around.

Scott was staring up at ceiling in his bedroom. Auggie was laying down on his bed skimming through a magazine. David and Ezra were playing a game of cards. Scott seemed in daze. The guys assumed about Shelby and their good-bye.

"Yo, muchacho what is on that ceiling that is so interesting." Auggie called out. He looked over at Scott and then up at the ceiling. Scott didn't answer.

Scott was thinking about he and Shelby's good-bye. He had a flashback to that morning.

"What do you want me to say? I'm sorry that my father died the same time that you decided to hate your father. Don't take it out on me." Shelby yelled.

Scott sat down on the bench and sighed, "Couldn't you be a little considerate?"

"I'm sorry that I'm not considerate enough. But, I'm not going to miss my father's funeral to stay home with you and sulk." Shelby called out.

Scott shook his head, "Since when did you want to go to your father's funeral? Why would you? Didn't you run away to get away from your family? And now you want to go see them instead of staying with me."

"Its my father, Scott. It doesn't matter how much I don't want to see my stepfather its a matter of paying respect to my real father." Shelby told him. She almost felt like she was going to cry. She then sat down next to Scott.

"Whatever Shelby. If you want to go, then go. Don't lecture me on caring about family members, you're the last person that should talk about respecting people, especially family members." Scott hissed.

Shelby stood up hurt, "What the h*ll is that supposed to mean Scott?"

"Oh nothing. Just go all right?" Scott paused for a minute. "Go will you!"

Shelby stood their with her hands on her hips, "Sometimes you forget that I'm a human being and I expect to be treated like one. And I have feelings just like everyone else." Shelby walked off mad.

"Shelby wait...Damnit Shelby. I'm sorry." He screamed out. Shelby was un able to hear him and didn't really listen. She continued walking trying to prevent tears.

"What is up with him?" Ezra whispered to David.

David rolled his eyes, "If it keeps him quiet then lets not ask."

"Shut up David." Scott called out.

"Oh yay. He is alive." David said sarcastically. He passed out the deck of cards. His smirk increased to see Scott annoyed.

Scott sat up from his laying position. He looked across the room at Auggie's bed. He was empty. "Where is Auggie gone?"

Ezra shrugged, "I guess he went to see Juliette."

Scott nodded his head. He looked around the room. He never realized how boring Horizon was with Auggie or Shelby. He questioned joining David and Ezra in their game of cards and shook that idea off. "What is there to do around here?"

"You mean you don't want to play cards with us, Scott? I'm so offended." David muttered. He smiled and then looked back at his cards.

Scott ran his fingers threw his blonde curly hair and got up and walked out of the boy's dorm. He looked around the campus. He saw Juliette and Auggie sitting on the bench. Juliette smiled and waved Scott over.

"Hey Scott." Juliette said with a smile.

Scott although annoyed by Juliette's perkiness was pleased to be around someone he knew. "Hey guys."

"Yo man you actually awake now?" Auggie said playing.

Scott laughed, "Yeah I hope. Is there anything to do around here? Is Horizon this boring?"

"You just miss Shelby." Juliette said in a matter of factly tone. She smiled and looked into Auggie's eyes. Scott never realized how much Juliette and Auggie were in love. He was kind of in a world with Shelby only and left the others out.

Juliette looked over to see Molly, "What's up with Molly? She seems kind of...I don't know alone. She is really smart though. She always gets good grades. And her and David they are weird. They are fighting and then all of a sudden sneak off with one another."

"She seems really quiet." Scott examined her. She seemed like she was waiting for someone. She was right outside the boy's dorm. Maybe it was Ezra. He was shocked to see David step out of the boy's dorm and Molly grab his hand and lead him into the shack. "Check it out. Molly and David got a thing going."

"My man Dave." Auggie said with a grin. Scott and Auggie gave each other a high five.

Juliette rolled her eyes, "You two are disgusting. Girls don't do that."

"You could if you wanted to. Just don't." Scott stated he tried to see through the window in the shack. He then laughed to himself. Life at Horizon had come to him snooping on David and a girl he didn't even know.

Shelby walked into her house. It didn't look too different since the last time she had left. The living room and kitchen were the same. Although they painted the dining room a different color. She felt the angry and hatred in this house that she ran away from. She then got the chills thinking of being in her room again, let alone being in this house.

"Welcome home. Everything should be in your memory. Although its been a long time. A very long time. The house is actually the cleanest its been in months. Jess is great at cleaning." Shelby's mother told Daisy and Shelby. Shelby could tell her mother was upset about something. She never talked about cleaning unless something was wrong.

Walt smiled at Shelby. It make her stomach turn and her face grow hot. "Let me take your bags up to your room and let me take off your coats."

"Its fine Walt. Daisy and I can do it ourselves." Shelby snapped. Everyone but Daisy looked at her strangely.

Shelby's mother sighed, "Shelby! Walt offered to do something and thats how you treated him?"

"What? I'm quite able to do things myself mom. Gosh--Now I know why I left here." Shelby hissed and walked away.

Walt shook his head and Shelby's mother yelled, "Shelby you get back here this instance. We have guests. You have no right to talk to your father that way!"

"He is not my father! And he will never be my father! How could you say that mom? Walt is not my father!" Shelby yelled out from the stairs hysterically. Daisy bit her lip and leaned against the wall. Jess looked up at Shelby. She knew why Shelby was annoyed.

Daisy watched as Shelby ran up the stairs. Then Daisy stared at her family. Her mother was hurt and upset. Jess was scared at what her sister said. And Walt had a stupid cocky face on. Daisy than ran up the stairs after Shelby. She looked around and the upstairs hall. She saw Shelby holding her knees up to her chest and rocking herself on her bed. Daisy entered her room. And walked over to her.

"I hate him." Shelby muttered as Daisy walked closer.

Daisy nodded with a small smile. She looked around at Shelby's room. It was different from Daisy expected. Shelby had a canape bed, shelves filled with tons of books, and ballet books and items. "It felt good to tell them off didn't it?"

"God yes." Shelby told Daisy with a small smile appearing on her face. Shelby looked over at Daisy for a minute. "You probably are wondering what that whole thing was about."

"If you want to tell me. I'll listen." Daisy told Shelby softly.

Shelby looked around her room, "This used to be me. This room. I used to be good in school, good at ballet, maybe even nice. Then 'he' came. He came and walked into my room. He'd come after my mother went to sleep. About an hour later. He'd come in here Daisy and..and.. oh god.. he'd come in here and he'd moleste me." Shelby's nose started to run and her eyes ran with tears. "He said that if I didn't say anything he'd stay away from Jess. Thats when I couldn't take it anymore. Him, school, ballet, life, everything. And I ran away. I did drugs and god I even went to prostitution. Thats where I met this girl. She reminds me of you actually. She ODed on drugs. She was my best friend and then she died. " Shelby laughed to herself for a second, "Then, I met Scott. Scott and I got busted for buying drugs and I was sent to Horizon." Shelby told Daisy. Shelby looked over at Daisy. Shelby smiled that Daisy had the same expression. She wasn't shocked, upset, angry, happy, felt pity nothing. Shelby smiled. "Thanks."

Daisy nodded. She smiled at Shelby, "So I remind you of a girl who ODed?" Shelby and Daisy laughed.

Scott, Juliette and Auggie were sitting in the lodge. Molly and David were standing against the wall talking. Scott couldn't help but watch Molly and David. There body language was intense. Suddenly, Peter tapped Scott on his shoulder.

"Hi Scott." Peter said quietly. Scott was startled.

Scott laughed, "Hey Peter, you scared me there. Whats up?"

"Can I talk to you outside for a minute?"

Scott nodded, "Yeah alright sure."

Peter started walking and headed outside toward the shed. Scott followed shortly behind.

"Whats going on Peter?" Scott asked concerned.

Peter ran his fingers through his brown hair, "Your father and Elaine. They split up. Long story I'll let your father tell you that himself. I just thought you might want to know. Might want to talk about it?"

"Why would I want to talk about it? The old man got rid of that skank." Scott laughed.

Peter shrugged, "He'll be calling later. I would suggest not using the word 'skank' in front of him. And in front of me."

"Yeah alright sure Peter. Hey, did you hear from Shelby?" Scott asked, hoping he did.

Peter nodded, "That I did. She called. Didn't say much. They arrived safely. I think its tough for her. Being home for her father's funeral."

"She is strong Peter." Scott noted.

Peter shook his head, "Actually she is quite the opposite. Something like this could make or break Shelby. But, lets

After Shelby's father's funeral Shelby and Daisy prepared for the luncheon. Shelby was dressed in a black skirt and and a purple chunky turtleneck. Daisy wore a black skirt and a blue longsleeve shirt. Shelby was making sandwiches while Daisy organized flowers.

"You did good." Daisy asked while placing the flowers in a vase.

Shelby shrugged. She didn't really do anything. Just sat down next to her family and friends. "Thanks.

Daisy smiled at Jess who just entered the kitchen. Jess walked over to Shelby. "Mom wants the sandwiches."

"She didn't want to come in and tell me, huh?" Shelby said flatly.

Jess shrugged, "Shelby can I talk to you?" Shelby looked over at Daisy. Daisy nodded and brought the flowers out to the dining room.

"Go ahead Jess." Shelby said cutting up the sandwiches.

Jess paused for a moment. She looked at Shelby steadily. Shelby knew what Jess was thinking. "He did it to you too. Didn't he?" Jess looked down at her feet. "Didn't he?"

"Yes. Alright? Yes." Jess said dryly. She still didn't look up at Shelby.

Shelby exhaled heavily and start pacing. She felt guilty for leaving Jess all by herself with Walt. "He said that if I never told anyone. That he would stay away from you."

"But, you knew what he was doing and you ran away. And you left him with me. You left him with me." Jess yelled with tears falling down her face.

Shelby was speechless. She didn't know what to say. "I'm sorry Jess. I'm really sorry."

"Whatever be sorry. Sit around and feel sorry." Jess hissed. She wiped her tears and walked out of the kitchen. Shelby was in tears. Daisy re-entered the kitchen. Daisy heard what Jess said.

"I'm sorry." Daisy said.

Shelby sighed, "Yeah thats the word of the day. I messed up Daisy. I really messed up."

"Can I take a seat?" Daisy asked.

Shelby shrugged, "If you are in the mood for unhappiness sit down."

"My speciality." Daisy said with a small smile. She sat down next to Shelby on the kitchen floor. Just then Shelby's mother walked in.

Shelby's mother laughed at the sight, "What is going on?"

"Nothing to exciting." Shelby stated not moving.

Shelby's mother sighed. She wiped her hands on her apron. Her eyes looked over at the sandwiches that weren't done. "I leave you with one job Shelby. One job."

"Gosh--cool down alright? Its not a big deal. I'll finish them. But, what is Walt doing that he can't lift a finger?" Shelby said rudely.

Shelby's mother's flashed anger, "Excuse me Shelby, You are back for two days and already you are picking on Walt."

"Well, I hope you don't expect me to apologize? Its my father's funeral and he is walking around like he is king of this world." Shelby said standing up so she could be at her mother's height.

Shelby's mother threw her hands up in the air. She shook her head wildly, "Why do I bother? No wonder Jess is so upset. Walt is trying to comfort her in there."

"You are letting that man touch her? I can't believe you. You must know what has been going on mother. You must have noticed him leave the room. You must be pretty dense to n..." Shelby was cut off.

"This is not the place Shelby." Shelby's mother said with tears welling up in her eyes.

Shelby shook her head, "No this is the perfect time. I need to vent and rant and tell you some things. You must know what he did to us..to Jess? By your expression I think you know very well what I'm talking about. And you wonder why I ran away. I missed you. But, I'll tell you I don't miss Walt and his ways. How could you let a person like him live in this house?" Shelby stopped. Her voice began to crack and her eyes became red from tears.

"I'm sorry Shelby. But, I don't know what I can say. What can I do?" Shelby's mother said walking toward Shelby.

Shelby shrugged, "I don't know. I don't know. Just how can you stand to look at him?"

"I wish I was as tough as you Shelby. I'm not. Jess and I we aren't as tough as you." Shelby's mother said gripping Shelby's hand.

Shelby shook her head, "Thats not true. I ran away. You stayed. You and Jess you are handling it better than I ever could have."

"Oh Shelby...what a day! What a day! Your father's funeral, this! The guests are going to arrive soon..."

"Let them arrive. We have nothing to hide. Walt is a sick old man. I'm a druggie runaway. This is who we are. What can we do?"

"You are so brave Shelby. I love you."

"I love you too mom." Shelby muttered under her breath and hugged her mother.

A little intense, huh? I tried to pack all of the stuff in here. A little bit unrealistic. But, I got to have Shelby and Scott face their demons. Sorry I take forever on writing things. Tests, projects, all of the high-school terrors that exist. Thanks for reading. Love you guys. Review..I like reading them while I should be studying.
