At first it was an annoyance, a disturbance in his usual routine, his honesty and his believe in the truth far too different, from what he was used to. He tried to ignore him, then push him away, but once he entered his life, it was almost impossible, to get rid of him again.

Then came the day, when he had no choice, but to recognize his existence. "I believe in you. I will defend you." There was no need for that, nor was there any reason, that would have made sense. Nevertheless he remained true to his words and saved him. The unfamiliar feelings he stirred up in him confused him and he decided to seal them away for the time being and leave.

While he was apart from him, he occupied himself, with studying the "right way". He learned how to have faith in the truth again. He used all his energy to leave the path von Karma had treaded for him. It was exhausting and used up all his time and almost all his strength. But all the time he was still aware of the presence of those feelings. He tried to overpaint them with gratitude, a feeling he could cope with, but the actual form was still guessable. When he found, that he can't cope with those feelings on his own, he returned.

After a while in his presence again, other feelings welled up. He added them to the sealed package. And when it was so big, that it hindered him completely from remaining reasonable, he ran away again...

Only to return and find everything he remembered in shambles. The man, that used to believe in the truth, that teached him how to trust, had become bitter and cold to an extend that it almost brought him to run away again. But he couldn't. The ball of feelings had grown so big, that it immobilized him completely. So he stayed. And he helped. Well, at least he tried to help. Until he saw that man's honest smile once again. That was, when he was able to eventually look at the package of feelings he had cultivated over the years. And he saw, that it had grown into the most precious treasure one can find in his life. At that moment, he did something he hadn't done even once over the years. Hell, he hadn't done it since he was a kid. But here, in his presence after he finally understood his feelings, he just had to do it.

Miles Edgeworth cried.
