This is the first Yami no Matsuei fic I've written and the first bit of fluff, so be nice. None of this is mine, but Tsuzuki occasionally looks like my dog.
"That one looks like a piece of cake."
Tsuzuki's voice startled Hisoka from his reverie. The cheery persistence of the voice grated, sand rubbing against the grain of his thoughts. Tsuzuki pointed at a cloud passing above them.
"And that's a banana split, over there."
"Are you hungry?"
Hisoka sighed. Stupid question. Of course Tsuzuki was hungry; Tsuzuki was always hungry, at least for the desserts he kept seeing in the sky. But an irritant, even if only a single grain of sand, needed to be relieved, and so what if the only way could clumsily coat it was with inanities? Hisoka colored slightly, embarrassed. Tsuzuki's amused grin only deepened both the embarrassment and the flush.
"No, no. I'm not hungry. Not really. The clouds just look like desserts. Like that one there, that's a triple scoop chocolate fudge sunday with whipped cream and a cherry on top!"
"Clouds don't look like food."
Denial, the next rough layer between himself and Tsuzuki's annoying way of being so… so Tsuzuki. That was really the only way to describe him. Infuriatingly Tsuzuki. That half-second when Tsuzuki's grin faltered didn't bother him at all. Not in the least.
"If they aren't food, then what are they?"
"Clouds."
Layer three: emotionless facts. What did Tsuzuki expect him to see? That adorable little puppy Tsuzuki became every time he wanted anything? And he wasn't blushing as Tsuzuki laughed at him. He wasn't!
"Okay, you win. Clouds are clouds and your crazy partner's just hungry. You want to go get something to eat?"
The real trouble with Tsuzuki was that when he tried to block out the irritation with distance, with coldness, with anything at all, it was never enough. Tsuzuki took on the layers and changed them, somehow, into a new irritation. One just as bothersome, but not exactly unpleasant.
"Fine."
It wasn't like they had just eaten. It had been nearly three hours. And Tsuzuki's pleased smile wasn't what was making him feel a warm glow. That would be silly. No, it was only the sun coming out from behind the desserts.
