Fandom: Twilight
Pairing: Jasper/Seth
Prompt: Nightmare
Jasper felt the moment Luka's emotions changed from peaceful to scared. He closed his book and put it on the bedside table. Seth shifted and mumbled sleepily as he stood. Leaning over Jasper kissed his husband's bare shoulder and tucked the sheet back around him. Quietly he left the room going to their son's just down the hall.
Sitting on the edge of the bed, Jasper ran his fingers through Luka's silky black locks. He was shifting Luka's emotions when the boy opened his eyes. There was still a bit of fright in them. Jasper gave him a smile. "Shh, it's okay. Papa's here," he whispered.
Luka sniffed and launched himself into Jasper's arms. His warm tears wet Jasper's shirt as he held onto his papa tightly. Jasper stroked his hair, whispering nonsense words until Luka calmed and sleep was starting to take hold again.
"Papa?"
"Yes baby?"
"Sing me a lullaby?"
"The one daddy sings you?"
Luka shook his head. "A new one. It'll just be our lullaby."
"Okay," Jasper agreed even as he slightly panicked. Seth always sang Luka his lullabies. It had been years since he had sung one⦠and a new one? He racked his brain, not even realizing it as he started humming the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
"I know-" Luka started but stopped as his papa started to sing.
"In the quiet of the night, Luka baby tucked in tight. Close your eyes, everything's all right. Dreams will take you to the light. Like a star, you're strong and bright. So sleep Luka baby, sleep all night."
Jasper sang the lullaby he had just made up a couple more times, until Luka was sleeping peacefully once again. He could have gone back to his and Seth's bed but something told him to stay there. So he did. Gathering Luka into his arms he sat with his back against the headboard, settling Luka down beside him, one arm wrapped around Luka's back. He kept humming the lullaby over and over until the morning came and Seth came looking for him.

Note: I didn't write the lullaby. Aside from changing a couple of words, it's from the book Chasing Brooklyn by Lisa Schroeder. It was my inspiration for this little drabble.
