"Flygon, use Flamethrower!" Drew called, "Uhhh, Roselia use…. wait no… Flygon, use Dragon Breath.. no hold on…. Flygon use Dragon Breath then Flamethrower and continue with that pattern! Roselia use Petal Dance and Stun Spore and Solar Beam!"
Both Pokemon struggled to keep up with their trainer's commands.
"I'm sorry, Roselia and Flygon. I guess I'm having trouble coming up with a combination," Drew lied.
He was actually thinking about May. For a while now, he felt different about her. She seemed like more than a rival to him.
He shook it off. I have to be thinking about the next contest, he told himself.
"Masquerain, use Silver Wind and Roselia use Magical Leaf! Absol use Razor Wind and Flygon use Flamethrower then Dragon Breath! Absol use Solar Beam and Roselia use Vine Whip to catch the Solar Beam!"
Absol and Roselia looked at Drew confused. "Sol?" "Roselia?"
Drew ignored them, "Flygon use Blizzard and Masquerain use Psychic!"
All four Pokemon looked up at Drew. Drew fell to the ground, "I'm so sorry guys. I can't concentrate now. Let's take a break now."
He grabbed four Pokeballs and returned all the Pokemon back. Drew stood up at the sound of someone's footsteps.
"Come on, Munchlax. I promised you that I would get you the berries, right? And I thought you wanted them." He knew that was May's voice.
"Munch! Lax!"
"Are you saying that you don't want them? Now out of all times, when I decide to walk all the way out here for food for you, you don't want to eat?!" May sounded furious. "Nevermind, I might as well get some for everybody else."
Drew smirked and grabbed the rose that was sitting in his pocket. As May walked over, she looked surprised to see Drew standing there and tripped over her own feet. She ended up falling into Drew's arms.
"Ummm… Hi Drew," May mumbled, clearly embarrassed.
"May, I didn't expect to see you here," Drew replied looking at her small pink lips.
"Well.. you see…," May said as Drew looked up her face. "I kind of owed Munchlax something….," Her cheeks were now tinted red. "And I could only find it out here.. so… yeah." Drew stared into her sapphire eyes and May stared back into his emerald ones.
Drew quickly regained his composure, "Clumsy as always, May." He smirked.
May got herself back together, "Well I'm, sorry. But I know that I'm not the only one having difficulties here," May pointed at the Pokeballs."
Drew blushed, "Well, my fangirls have made me restless that I can't concentrate," he said as he handed May a rose.
May took it and sighed in exasperation but her thought were still wondering on what had just happened a few seconds earlier.
"Well….. I better start looking for those.. umm… berries… so.. yeah. Bye!" May said.
"Yeah," Drew said as he found himself staring at her again.
"I'll see you in the contest, right?" May asked.
"Huh? Oh, right! Yes, you will. And you'll see me win," he smirked as he flipped his hair.
May rolled her eyes, "We'll see about that." Then she walked away.
Drew stared after her. He kept replaying the moment when May fell in his arms. He replayed the moment when he stared at her beautiful sapphire eyes and her angular cheekbones and her small pink lips. He imagined the softness of her lips against his as he tangled his fingers in her soft brown hair.
Stop, he told himself, She's just a rival. But as of that moment, Drew wasn't sure what May meant to him. But he knew one thing, nothing will ever be the same again.
