Prologue:

New York City, 1910

I was sitting in my chair thinking of her. She never left my mind but I couldn't bring myself to tell her the truth. Not again. I don't want to lose her. I was looking at a picture of her that I secretly had. She was so beautiful. As I was caught up in my thoughts, there was a knock at the door. I didn't know who it could be especially at this time at night. I got up and walked across the room to open the door. Once I opened it, I was met with a pair of icy blue eyes…It was her.

"What do you want?" I spat at her. I didn't mean to but I didn't want to slip, it was better this way…

She looked at me nervously. "Oh umm I just came to ask if you had an extra pen…I was going to write my mother a letter and…"

I cut her off by handing her the pen.

"Thank you." She said. She started to look around and her eyes fell on my suitcases.

"You're leaving?" She asked.

"Yes, I have to. I'm in need of a getaway. I can't live in this city anymore…" I trailed off.

"But you can't." She said.

"Why not?"

"Oh umm no reason, never mind."

She began to walk back to her room but before she could I grabbed her arm and made her look at me.

"I have to protect you. I can't lose you like I did the last time." I said with worried eyes.

"Protect me? Last time? What are you talking about?" She said confused.

Damn it I slipped. I can't let my emotions get to me…

"Never mind that. The point is you have to stay here with your family." I said looking into those mesmerizing eyes of hers.

"But I want to go with you."

Oh if only she knew how much I wanted to take her with but I just couldn't.

"No, I won't allow it." I said sternly.

"Why not?"

"I just can't!" I raised my voice. That was a big mistake. She was about to cry. If only she know the truth!

She started to walk away again but I didn't let her.

"Let me go!" She protested. "You don't want me so why keep me from walking away?"

"I can't let you walk away because I love you." And with that, I kissed her with all the passion that allowed in a kiss. She started to kiss back but I pulled back and saw a fearful look in her eyes…

Then she screamed.
