Plot bunnies strike again! So I was in the car with my mom and the song "Dollhouse" my Melanie Martinez, and I was trying to figure out what it meant, and my mom said it's about family secrets. And this was born.
Disclaimer: Don't own Wicked, if I did I wouldn't have to fantasize about meeting my favorite actresses (Willemijn, Lindsay, Idina, Alli, and CATHERINE CHARLEBOIS!(!) Must I go on?)
Warning: Infidelity, domestic abuse, etc.
Perfect.
That's what they were always called.
The Thropps were a family straight out of a portrait.
Frexspar, the Governor of Munchkinland, was a loving father towards his two daughters. Melena was a lovely, beautiful woman, with an even more beautiful heart. Elphaba, despite having her emerald green skin, was a smart girl, with a strong opinion on equality for all. And little Nessarose was tragically beautiful, but had one of the most caring souls anyone had ever seen.
Well…at least that's what people saw.
But, when the curtains were drawn and the windows closed, the family was anything but perfect.
Melena wasn't in love with Frex at all. She had been once, but then she fell in love with a travelling salesman, and had Elphaba while under the effect of a Green Elixir, causing Elphaba to be born with her green skin. Frex knew that Elphaba wasn't his child, but he focused more on the fact that his wife hadn't stayed faithful. Melena longed to take Elphaba and run away with the salesman, but Frex said if she left, the whole of Oz would find out she had a bastard child with a man she hardly knew. She would be shunned from society. So she stayed as the Governor's wife, miserable. But she kept a doll-like smile whenever she was with Frex in public, and made sure everyone thought they were still in love.
Elphaba was beaten on a daily basis. Every day, at around the same time when Melena would go to the market, Frex would physically beat Elphaba, blaming her for Nessa's…predicament and also taking out his anger at Melena upon the small girl. No one, none of the servants, caretakers, or even Nessarose or Melena knew of this.
There was also when Frex occasionally would flare his temper at Melena herself, and would sometimes abuse her. It was never worse than a slap, usually to the face, but it did cause a few hours of worth makeup to be used to hide the bruises.
Still, these secrets were hidden from everyone else. A set of walls were the sole thing dividing what the Thropps were and what they were thought of to be.
The infidelity and abuse was hidden under a thick, heavy, well-bound blanket of lies.
They were perfect.
At least they seemed to be.
How was that? I hope wasn't as bad as I think it was.
Review please!
