AN: Hey guys! I feel like getting angsty today! Anyway, I'll just let the words speak for themselves.
The Diamond Tears
As they walked back to the Tardis, he whirled around after hearing Amy's anguished cry. "RORY!" she screamed, facing the weeping angel. "I'm sorry Amelia," the Doctor said in a small voice. "I'm so, so sorry." As she gazed back at the gravestone that she and her husband had just been analyzing, she finally understood. "No," she whispered, breaking the Doctor's hearts with her damaged, hopeless voice. "We can just go and get him in the Tardis," she said, turning back to him with small tears resting in her eyes. "One more paradox-"
"Would rip New York apart." The Doctor hated the way he could literally see her heart shatter into a million pieces. "No! That's not true! I don't believe you!" But the Doctor could see in her light hazel eyes the defeat and sorrow. River tried to help, "Mother, it's true."
Amy's face fell, and she turned back to the outstretched arm of the surviving statue. The Doctor suddenly realized what she was going to do, but he wanted to confirm it. "Amy," he started shakily. "What are you doing?"
"The gravestone," Amy said dejectedly, never letting her eyes leave the angel, if it could even be called that. "Rory's. There's room for one more name, isn't there." The Doctor quickly glanced at the grave, then back at Amy who was continuing her slow march towards the weeping angel.
"What are you talking about?" the Doctor asked, still trying to disprove his theory. "Back away from the angel. Come back to the Tardis, we'll figure something out."
"The angel," Amy interrupted. "Would it send me back to the same time? To him?" The Doctor's hearts beat rapidly in his chest as he found himself lying, "I don't know, nobody knows." He knew that the answer was really yes.
"But it's my best shot, yeah?" Amy still didn't meet his eyes, instead focusing on the angel's cold grey arm. The Doctor desperately wanted to run and pick her up, carrying her into the Tardis, into safety, but he knew she would never forgive him. "No!" He shouted, still trying to convince her.
River realized the Doctor's and Amy's intention, but she understood why her mother was doing this. "Doctor, shut up. Yes, yes it is." The Doctor looked at her like she was the ultimate traitor, his features showing anguish and disgust. "Amy!" he cried, whirling back towards her.
"Well then," Amy said courageously. "I just have to blink, right?"
"No!" the Doctor cried, sounding like a dying animal. "It'll be fine. I know it will. I'll be with him, like I should be. Me and Rory together," Amy stated, reaching her hand backwards. "Melody?"
River moved forward, grasping her mother's pale hand. "Stop it!" the Doctor shouted. "Just stop it!"
"You look after him," Amy continued, ignoring the Doctor's request. "You be a good girl, and you look after him."
River kissed her hand and silently walked back to the Doctor. "Amy, please just come back to the Tardis," he pleaded. "Come along, Pond. Please." However, the Doctor knew his words had no effect on her. He let one tear fall as Amy turned around.
Her last words were, "Raggedy man, Goodbye!"
And then she vanished.
The Doctor cried out, "NO!" one more time. As more tears spilled out, he glanced through blurred vision at the tombstone. It read: In loving memory of Rory Arthur Williams, aged 82 and his loving wife Amelia Williams, aged 87.
The Doctor let the water trace burning trails down his skin. He cried as River held him. The sun reflected of of his wet cheeks, making the tears sparkle like diamonds.
He had just lost his two best friends, and as the realization hit him, his knees buckled and the world crashed down around him.
