--A poem depicting the solitude and loneliness that consumes the man known as the Phantom of the Opera--
From the rest of the world he is hidden away
Exiled from the cruel, unfeeling light of day
No one would listen, or give him a chance
He abandoned all his hopes and dreams of romance
A simple white mask concealed his hideous face
This mask, his only saving grace
A musical genius, hidden deep down below
In this torturous solitude, his talents will grow
But, in his dark existence comes a glimmer of light
An Angel of Music, to make his song take flight
A radiant young beauty is she
His forbidden love that was never meant to be
He brings her amazing talents to light
As he shows her the splendor and suspense of The Music of the Night.
But alas,
A charming young nobleman steals her heart.
And from his life she will forever depart
He cannot believe that she would betray him so
And he is not about to just let her go
As Don Juan Triumphant, his passion for her freely burns
And now he knows he is Past the Point of No Return
In vain, he fights to make her his possession
To fulfill his pure love that was turned to a dark obsession
A simple kiss, his first taste of human kindness and care
The first feeling of love and compassion ever shared
The hatred and distortion in his soul seems to fade
And in a life changing moment, his decision is made
He releases her to the man he knows she truly adores
And he says farewell to his love forevermore
Never were words spoken so true
As his anguished soul cries
"Christine, I love you"
