What If:

A Collision of Muggles and Magic

AN: Just a thought I've been tossing around. Turned it into a little ficlet just to get it out of my head.

The idea had never been his. It was something he could never ever claim credit for. Yet he still maintained full control over the books. Although to his dismay, he had far less influence on the movies, but it was far too late for that. Anyway, he got on well with the boy chosen to portray him.

Harry Potter did it for all of humanity. At least, that's what he told himself. He had to admit though, that this was an ingenious plan to introduce muggles to the wizarding world. He feared panic, mayhem, war and those sorts of things, but the magical governments around the world along with their non-magical counterparts, were prepared to step in should the situation turn violent. It was time, they figured, to let these two worlds collide.

Midnight, July 21st 2007 found Harry Potter sitting in a small office pacing between his armchair and the fireplace. Never overly patient, Harry had taken to walking to relieve the building tension. He was waiting for the muggle reaction. "The wizarding world is real, we are out there, we do not want to hurt muggles. We simply wish to coexist." Messages like the former were prepared for broadcast the instant word spread. Harry was nervous, but nowhere near as nervous as the Ministry of Magic.

First came the condemnation from the Pope. Then came the widespread disbelief. Rioting soon followed, but it was quickly quelled by various military forces united around the world. Eventually, people calmed down. Some continued to rabidly denied it, many claimed it was sin, but still many more found peace with their magical neighbors. It turned out as well as any practical person could ever imagine and the wizarding world was pleasantly surprised.
