Oblivion

I look for you everywhere —
Every memory, every dream, every thought.
Yet, you are not there.
I am hidden —
Underneath your memories, your dreams, your thoughts,
I am there.

Once upon a time,
You were with me.
Good times, bad times, all the time —
You were there;
To celebrate, to comfort, to enjoy
Every moment we spent together.
Before our lives were split apart,
I was with you.
I reminisce about all the memories we made together —
We were inseparable;
You were the body, I was the soul.
I long for our paths to cross again.

Devoid of all emotions,
My desolate heart
Crystallized into an icy prison —
Smothered of the fire of life.
I am imprisoned inside
The depths of your heart.
Unlock the emotionless, glacial doors —
Set me free.

When we were little,
I was free —
Free to run, free to play, free to do as I pleased.
Now, I am enslaved —
One insignificant and expendable minion
In the endless battle of attrition against the bringers of light.
When we were young,
You submitted to the darkness —
You became a heartless being;
One of a million wandering souls to be transformed —
Souls with memories, souls with a past.
You became the nobody that you are today.

A collar with a key wrapped around my neck —
A key to unlock the power within and extinguish the light.
The corrupt strength of darkness surged through my bloodstream,
Sustaining my empty and tainted body.
I was sent to a wondrous world of pure and simple fantasy —
Where to gain is to lose and to lose is to gain.
The siren calls beckoned for you —
You heeded the alluring voices.
You strayed from the path of light,
And dived into the abyss of your dark destiny.
You succumbed —
Shards of darkness impaled your unreal heart.

I gained a new heart —
A heart faintly glowing with darkness
As it pumps its powers throughout my body.
Yet, I lost my own in the process:
A heart, aged with time,
Wrapped around by protective chains of memories.
The door to your heart was closed shut —
I was sealed away inside.
The storehouse of our memories was deposited
Into the Cemetery of Hearts:
Jars upon jars of once-vibrant spirits ripped from the nobodies' bodies.
I waited for your arrival.

At last, I have found you in one of countless urns —
Urns, full of the hearts of once-sentient beings,
Now trapped in an eternal trancelike state.
The key chained to my collar suddenly gravitated to an urn
I picked the heart up to discover a keyhole —
On its own accord, my key flew inside …
I sensed your presence —
My cardiac cage soon shook suddenly.
A strange golden key with a
Crown-shaped sword tip came through the keyhole.
The door slowly crept open as it unlocked —
Shining rays of light filled my eyes again.

The door unlocked to reveal
A lingering fragment of memory
Made of pearly silver shadow-dust —
A little boy in flowing white robes that flapped in the wind.
It was —
You …
I glided out the doors of my cold confine;
We were united again.
You embraced me —
My body slowly disintegrated into tiny beads of light,
Travelling through you to cleanse your tortured heart —
I was ready…

We are the same, and yet so different.
I am a denizen of the dark,
You are a spirit of the light.
Yet, we share the same body and soul.
My inner soul rejoined your purged body.
Your darkness dissipated into
Neutralised wisps of smoke.
You were purified.

We are united again —
We are complete.
Childhood memories stream into our collective mind.
It was an age of innocence;
When everything was simple and clean …
