"You know,Coop, i really like you" said Violet, smiling "...but only as a friend. you were drunk, it was a mistake, i know" continued Coop, with a disappointed smile "i'm sorry, i'm giving a stupid cliche茅 speech, aren't i?" Violet asked, and she did look sorry "i know this is horribly lame, but i truly want to be friends, i do want our stupid hormones to ruin our friendship cause you really are important to me" she continued.
Cooper hugged her and planted a sweet kiss to her forehead."I know. i mean, i've heard the speech many times but you're the first one who's truly sounded honest. i don't wanna lose you either, i like having you in my life. so... friends?" he asked,
She took a step back and wiped a tear from her eye. she held out her hand "yeah, friends forever"
Violet sat on the beach, drinking her wine, remembering that night so many years ago.
It had been fantastic, she remembered like it had happened yesterday. she never regretted it, never wished to forget it, like many other short romances she'd had.
They'd both moved on after that. met other people, dated other people.
Then came alan for her and internet chicks for him and now she was a mess, and sometimes he wasn't much better.
And still, he went and told her she was "hard to forget".
she though of the look in his face, the tone of his voice, his wandering eyes.
Was he being serious? had he not forgotten her?
they were still best friends but she never thought he'd have any feelings for her.
Not after all this time.
"Vi? Are you okay?" Coop. who else would it be?
She nodded.
He sat down next to her with the bottle they'd brought
"Want some? your glass is almost empty" he said. she noticed He had a beer in the other hand. he poured the wine and half buried the bottle on the sand. he took a sip of his beer.
"Please tell me you weren't thinking about Alan" he sounded as if he was begging
she looked at him and smiled
"Actually, i wasn't. i was just... i don't know, thinking about life and how we got here" she said, drinking her wine
"You think too much. i know,i know, you're a shrink it's your job, but i've always thought you need to learn to relax." he offered her a smile.
"Look at that!" he said, looking over his shoulder. Addison had put on some music and was dancing with Pete. he didn't seem particularly excited about it, but at least he was there.
They both laughed at the sight.
"Aw, that's cute" said Violet, looking at them
"yes, two mildly crazy people. couldn't be cuter" he said, smiling.
He stood up and offered his hand
"Wanna dance?" he asked
she looked up at him, at his hand and his hesitant smile
she smiled back
"Sure. i should have more fun"
Cooper was still her best friend. after all those year, she didn't think that was likely to change, even if their relationship ever did.
