I.

Yggdra opened her eyes.

There was a brief flash of light off in the distance. Lightning. Thunder would follow in one, two, three, four, five, six, seven—

The loud noise caused her to jump, even though she was expecting it.

And then the rain began pelting on her head. She hugged her knees to her chest, shuddered twice and sighed. She barely noticed the rain – her head felt like it was in some deep fog, and everything was fuzzy.

Even out here it was hard to think. At least it was better than when she was trapped in the camp. It was so claustrophobic there; the ghosts were always gathering around her and cluttering the air and making it hard to breathe. They would look at her with their vague faces and whisper things she couldn't understand.

They made everything feel too real.

It all started – oh goodness, when did it start? It started in what felt like ages ago, when she was happy, when she was confident. Or maybe it started a bit later, when she was lost, when she was terrified. Perhaps that was when it started - that time when the world had fallen apart and burned to the ground.

She closed her eyes and tried to clear the fog from her head.
