Another Thomas rewrite, this time it's "A Proud Day for James" from Season 1. Enjoy and comment.

One evening, Henry and Gordon were alone with James at Tidmouth Sheds. Even though Sir Topham Hatt was thinking well about James, the other engines teased him about bootlaces.

"Remember when they had to use a bootlace to mend a hole in your coaches?" they teased.

James tried talking about the time Henry got bricked up in the tunnel, and when Gordon got stuck on a hill, but they wouldn't listen.

"You talk too much James." said Gordon. "Fine, strong engines like me have stuff to talk about each night, like me being the only engine to pull the Express. When I'm not there, they need two engines. Think of that! I've pulled the Express for years, and have never once lost my way!"

Next morning, Gordon woke James up.

"Wake up James!" said Gordon. "It's time for the Express! What are you doing, odd jobs?"

"Maybe." replied James.

"Hurry along and fetch my coaches." said Gordon.

So James did.

The coaches were shiny and new, so James had to be careful not to bump them.

"I wish I was going with you." said James "I always wanted to pull the Express."

Gordon was soon coupled onto the train.

Then, Sir Topham Hatt, as well as other important people boarded the train.

As the conductor blew the whistle, he left.

James watched the train disappear, and then went back to work.

James had brought some more coaches to the platform, when he heard a terrible noise!

Gordon was sneaking into the station, looking unnoticed.

"Is it tomorrow already?" asked James.

Gordon didn't answer.

"Did you lose your way already?"

"I got switched onto the branch line! I had to turn around and come back here!"

The passengers were complaining to Sir Topham Hatt how bad of a railway it was, and demanding their money back.

Sir Topham Hatt told the passengers, that a new train would arrive.

"Will you pull it for us James?" he asked.

"Yes sir, I'll try!" replied James.

James was coupled on, and everyone got in.

"Do your best James!" said Sir Topham Hatt.

"Come along, come along!" puffed James.

"Pull well, pull well!" sang the coaches.

The passengers cheered, and James reached the station on-time.

Sir Topham Hatt was very impressed.

"Well done!" he said. "Would you like to pull the Express sometimes?"

"Yes please!" answered James.

Next day, James pulled the Express, while Gordon pulled freight cars.

"I like some quiet work for a change!" said Gordon. "I'm teaching these cars manners. You did very well with the Express!"

James and Gordon are now great friends. Sometimes James takes the Express instead of Gordon, so that Gordon can do some quiet work.
