Author's Note: Okay, I don't write poems ever, so go easy on me when you read this, alright? (I actually really like this though, shhh)

Written for…

The Stratified Agate Competition. Level I, "write an abstract (highly metaphorical) poem about your pairing"

Wings

The first time he sees her
she is an ugly duckling.
The ringing in his ears
that never goes away.

He is a stone:
hard, cold, unyielding.
She cannot break him,
even though she tries.

She becomes a swan:
pretty, but loud.
She lacks the gentleness
of the flower he admired.

He has seen her become more
than he ever thought she could.
She is a dragon, fierce and strong.

He is alone and forgotten,
left dying for the cause.
She is the angel
who comes to save his life.
