On their way to Ash's next gym battle our heroes decided to take a rest at a cabin in the woods.
"I can't believe how lucky we were to find this place" Serena said stepping out of the room she and Bonnie shared.
"Yeah it really was lucky" Clemont agreed while tightening a bolt on one of his new inventions
"Hey have either of you guys seen Ash anywhere "She asked not seeing the other boy.
"I think he's outside he said he wanted to be alone not even Pikachu went with him"
Now that really worried her, Pikachu went with him everywhere those two were inseparable. She stepped outside and saw Ash sitting against a tree with a grim and serious look on his face
"Hey Ash, you ok"
"Huh" he said looking up at the girl walking toward him.
"Yeah I'm fine" he answered not really meaning it.
"You mind if I sit with you?"
"Go ahead"
They sat there in silence for awhile until Ash finally decided to break the silence
"Serena, do you think I'm a good trainer"
"Yeah you're one of the best trainers I know"
"Thanks"
"Why do you ask?"
"I don't know I've be doing a lot of thinking and"
"And what"
"Well I've been traveling for a long time now and the only thing I've got to show for it are a couple of trophies in my room" he got more depressed as he went on "I've traveled though so many regions and the best I've ever done was the top eight maybe I should just.."
Serena couldn't believe what she was hearing. This wasn't the same Ash she knew. The one who never gave up when things got hard, the one who always stayed positive all the time, the one she fell for. She couldn't stand hearing him like this.
"Hey Ash" she said her voice shaking
As soon as Ash looked up to face her he immediately got a slap to the face.
"Ow, what was that for?" he yelled rubbing his sore cheek
"It was to get you back to your senses, so what if you messed up a few times like you always say never give up till it's over"
"But"
"No buts and even if you mess up again you have friends to support you friends like Clemont friends like Bonnie friends like me"
At first Ash didn't say or do anything but after a few seconds a small smile crept onto his face.
"You did it again Serena"
"Did what?"
"Remind me of who I am just like you did when we were at Santalune City"
Ash pulled her in for a hug which made Serena blush like mad. As soon as Ash let go he went back to the cabin to get his pokemon and as soon as she got her senses back she walked back with him.
