Agnikai: The Quest for Justice

The sunlight red and dying; ceremonial drums playing battle music, only one thing on my mind… Battle! I turned to face my opponent, a young, talented, but arrogant fire bender. Arrogant and with a mouth and attitude that often gets him in trouble with his superiors.

With a rude smirk on his face, and a cocky tone in his voice he yelled to me, "Are you ready Fire Lord Zuko?"

Beginning to get a little steamed up I yelled back, "Oh I'm ready alright; ready to show you your place!"

This whole battle started when the young fire bender, Victor, openly challenged my authority as Fire Lord. Outraged and not about to let this affront go unnoticed I challenged him to Agnikai at sunset.

With match preparations now complete he looked at me snidely and his body began to tense up. Readying my stance I took a deep breath and waited. With a sudden grunt he bolted toward me but stopped about half-way. Leaping into the air he launched several fireballs and a sweeping wave of fire. Standing still all of them missed me by a few inches.

"Your aim needs work…" I chided.

"Grrrrrrrrrr, we'll see who'll need work after this match" was his response.

A sudden sharp pain jolted my arm and I saw I was on fire. Victor landed and was apparently pleased to have set me ablaze. His satisfaction didn't last long because the flames went out and I didn't have a scratch. His smile turned into a scowl and he drew closer. I struck out only to grab at empty air. I realized then he was in the air above me. As he was landing I turned and began the Dancing Dragon form. Sensing this match was close to its end he unleashed a series of desperate fire attacks, but it was no use. I flowed in between his blows like a mighty serpent, and just as I was about to make the final movement he ran straight at me palm ablaze intending to end this match with a final decisive blow. My form was complete and I released a torrential fire on him sending him flying into the wall, smashing it to the ground. Time seemed to stop with the drums. The dust settled and I saw him lying among the wall's rubble. He called to me, wondering what he was planning I walked over to him. When I first stood over him he stared me in the eyes, then he quickly turned his head in shame, muttering something to himself.

Still not facing me he said, "I'm sorry… For taking the last cookie at the banquet last night…"
