This is a quick little one shot - enjoy
Ziva sighed deeply, she was incredibly bored. She was in the second week of her maternity leave and to say all the time she had on her hands was wearing on her would be an understatement. Don't get it wrong, she was incredibly excited for the arrival of her baby, she loved sorting the baby things and the nursery - but you could only fold baby grows so many times.
She often wondered what the team was up to, speculated in her mind what antics would be currently underway in the bullpen. She missed the banter that she often indulged in with Tony. Although she pretended he got on her nerves and annoyed her, it was an integral part of her day. He was one of her best friends, so it was only natural that she had slight withdrawal from not seeing him everyday. They still spoke often, and he called around the house at least three times a week, but it just wasn't the same.
She missed both Abby and McGee just as badly, however Abby being the designated aunt to her unborn child ensured she saw her often. McGee usually accompanied Abby when she visited, though he was adorably awkward on the visits, the mere fact that their ruthless mossad assassin was settled, married and pregnant seemed to unsettle him. It might have been the fact that she was the first of their little group to get pregnant - after all if a few years back people had been asked to guess who would be married and have children first she'd have been the last choice. Luckily for her that wasn't the case. She was now happily married to a man that she loved unconditionally and who worshipped her like no man ever had.
It had been a shock to the rest of the team - with the exception of Ducky - when they'd announced that they were together. Ducky of course, in all of his wisdom, had seen the signs of what was to come long before even the pair of them had. He'd noticed within the first few months of Ziva joining the team the sparks that sizzled between them. He was frankly shocked at the length of time that it took them both to realise what was between them and for Jethro to finally make a move. And then the rest was history. They'd married two years in and she'd fallen pregnant unexpectedly a few months later. Which brought her back to the present. Her feet hurt, her back ached and frankly she couldn't wait to push the thing out. She felt fat, even though many people had told her pregnancy suited her, especially Jethro, who couldn't tell her often enough how beautiful she looked. But for someone who was a very active, slim, physically motivated person, all of this extra weight and sitting about was like torture.
It didn't help her emotional and mental health when ger baby seemed to be kick boxing inside her constantly. Jethro often pointed out that since it was half him and her it was bound to be a fighter, that usually made her laugh and cheered her up. There was no way in hell that she'd allow her baby to end up like her, both herself and Jethro were determined to give their baby the best possible life, safe and cared for, unknowing if the hardships its parents had endured.
She couldn't wait for the birth, to feel her child in her arms, to love someone unconditionally and raise them, mature them, teach them right or wrong. She also couldn't wait to see Jethro as a father, no doubt their child would be a daddy's boy or girl. She couldn't wait to be a mother, to nurture and protect.
A splash sound echoed below her, moments later, her feet were wet, surrounded in a puddle of water. Looks like the waiting was over, now their future as a family begins.
