White Flag

Walking away, words unsaid burning inside her like fire, she had the feeling she'd missed something. Lost something. Forgotten something.

Something important.

So she glanced back behind her and tried to figure out what it was...only to find him only a few inches behind her.

"Are you following me?" She asked.

"I just thought you might want some help carrying everything to the car."

"'kay." She dumped the box in his arms and after a fake complaint, he helped her load everything into er trunk. Satisfied that it fit snugly with all her other junk (she was not a neat person), she slammed the trunk closed with a loud clunking noise. "Well, bye, then."

"Kaoru. Wait a minute."

"What?" She wondered why her heartbeat was suddenly a little too fast, and waited with bated breath. Before she had time to admonish herself, he spoke.

"Do you have plans for the rest of the day?"

"Not really..."

"Do you want to grab some lunch?"

"Lunch..." Kaoru hesitated. "Lunch would be good."

For everyone who said the ending was too sad.

I like the original ending better- in part because it wasn't blatant KK. Still, the desire ot write happy things stays with me...thus, White Flag.
