Dean Winchester stared at the small 4 by 6 photo in his hand and wiped a palm across his face. It was a picture of him and the one person he wasn't entire sure he wanted to see again but knew he had to.
His brother, Sam. Sam the college boy…off studying Law to be become some "bigwig" he knew.
Well, that was the life he apparently wanted. Not one with him and dad, hunting. Dean allowed himself a small smile despite his worry over the man who'd been missing for longer than usual…the reason he was considering seeing said brother again.
For a moment, he imagined his brother as he was when he left. Anger had marred his soft features and hardened his usually warm brown eyes. Damn, it had been more startling seeing him that way than it had been seeing his father angry.
Sam just didn't look like that. It wasn't in his nature. Or not at least, Dean realized, until that fateful night Sam and their father had fought.
Setting the photo down, Dean stood and slipped on his leather jacket, grabbed his car keys, and headed out.
For a long time, there was nothing but the rumble of the Impala's engine and his own thoughts to keep him company.
What, he found himself wondering, would Sam do or say once he saw him again? Shock, maybe? Yeah, that seemed like a likely thing to happen. He'd be shocked too if his brother cam out of nowhere to chat after two years of no communication.
What about after that? Dean flicked on his sunglasses and scowled for a moment. No, he wouldn't think of that.
Towns that seemed to blend together whizzed by the window whenever he happened to go through or pass one. Dean paid them no mind. He wasn't interested in them.
All he cared about was finding that brother of his.
And soon enough, he did. Parking in front of the building, Dean flicked his sunglasses off again.
This was it…
And with that, he walked inside.
